Honestly, i don't know where this goes, so i put it here.
Well, i have no idea how to sprite an explosion. And being that i'm making an Overhead Gradius Esq game.
If anyone could help or point me in the direction of some help, it would be greatly appreciated.

MS is excellent for side-on explosions although quite probably beyond the means of most pixellers. For top-down pixelled explosions I suggest looking at Raiden (or Raiden 2 if it works yet) in MAME. Very nice stuff.

Here you go courtesy of The Game Factory from click team While it was locked up pretty tight I got em out just for you. Granted they use about 40 colors...
(http://img342.imageshack.us/img342/5066/ex2gif0io.gif) They had nicer ones but this was only six frames while the others where 11, to 20. They also use hot spots making copying & pasting a nightmare, but I cared enough to work through this one because it was only 6 frames. I also slowed down the delay and might have offcentered a few frames.

Dang, my pics died. :( Well, look here:

Actually, Noveroth, I've found that the easiest explosions that still look great are generated on the fly. I like to use a simple bright white circle for the center of the explosion, and then spew out more circles in all directions, animating the smaller circles to fade to yellow, red, and then a smoky haze. Throw in a bit of shrapnel if you want it to look even better. Also, sound effects are absolutely vital to make it really seem like it exploded.

Noveroth if your using game factory then why not look at the explosions they have? You can look at em frame by frame and zoom in. Or did you not know they were there?
-
There's a very nice flash version of Raiden out there if you're wary of breaking laws.
But I digress. Pawidge has a point: simple explosions that look good also save CPU cycles. And you know how much people love to hoard those little suckers.

I have looked at them and I've learned that they are too big, and over detailed for my game. And i like simplicity.
So yeah, i think i'll take the advise of Simple = better-ish.
I'll post some screens when i get further in the progress, Thanks for the help guys.

Flash version has bobbins explosions.
