I think when this game is released it will be ripe for pixel art discussion and deconstruction. :y:

The backgrounds seem to be Henk Nieborg. Can someone confirm? At least, it looks like Henk.
-
Ah you beat me to it lol.
Henk works at Wayforward and I'm pretty sure he did a bunch of the background stuff, I dunno if he did all of it though. The forest areas for sure are him. I can't wait to play this it looks great!
-
yes, this is all (or mostly) henk
-
some of it is Ptoing ;)
-
Only the background around 0:55 (the one with the planet model and such) in that video is from me tho.
Though I made a bunch more single screen stuff. It's MAINLY but not only Henk as far as backgrounds go. Should be a fun game.
-
You're still in Germany, right?
I didn't know Wayforward was doing offsite work too. Maybe I should send in my resumé after I graduate.
-
most of their pixel artists - if not all the last time i checked - are offsite
-
They do lots of offsite work as far as pixels go, I think most artists on Shantae were offsite, as well as other stuff I worked on for them.
EDIT: DAMN YOU INDIGO!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
This looks absolutely great.
-
Okay, cool, good to know. I suppose programmers are on-site?
I would really love to see some screenshots of this, so we can all marvel at the work Ptoing :)
Any idea of the list of Pixelation and ex-Pixelation members that worked on this?
-
Man, the pixel art is lovely! The character designs are, well, Shantae.
-
FINALLY! I'm so happy for everybody at WayForward =D......ahhh....it's a bittersweet nostalgia to think of what little time I was there :-[
Henk's art really brings something new to the game, specifically it really makes that jumping between foreground and background mechanic look delicious
-
I like the green lady's idle animation :-* Totally didn't even notice Sven's bitching background in that portion 'til it was pointed out, too distracted.
-
Hehe, yeah it's not like you can tell my stuff out there a lot, since I had to keep it somewhat in style with the other content.
-
Haha, I just saw this and was about to post wondering if Henk Nieborg was back again? :)
At least my link has a large screenshot as well:

I was considering getting a DSi XL, perhaps now is the time. I absolutely loathe the god-awful purchasing system of DSiWare, though (locked into one single device, that if it breaks or you buy a new one, you will have to buy all of your games again). Let's hope this game gets an iPhone release as well, because iTunes DRM is a lot better and safer (for the CUSTOMER).

Just who is this henk nieborg guy?
Can you point to some of his work here on the forums?
I'd like to see some of it.
What parts did you do ptoing?
Looks awesome as far as I can tell.
-
Henk Nieborg is a Dutch artist who is around since the 80s. He is not active here.
I made 6 single screen locations, shops and such.
-
this game looks gorgeous, great work by all involved. xhunterko im very surprised you havent heard of henk before, he is like king of pixel art in games. just visit his site for more incredibly sexy pixels.
does anyone know who did the character animations?
-
I am not 100% sure but I think DarkFalkX did most of them.
-
DarkFalkX is on the team now too? Crazy sexy company for the win
-
Gah agreed, his animations are awesome ;D
-
I had no idea you guys were involved in so much commercial work.
What else have you all done?
-
Today, when I was searching the net I found the original Shantae graphics. They've definitely improved.
-
They haven't improved, the platform is just better.
