Post by: Squiddymute on August 22, 2015, 08:04:31 pm
Been trying to finish this so i can start animating him. What do you think so far? Supoosed to be a character for a post apocalyptic adventure game.

It's good, just needs to make better use of the palette and some anatomy tweaks. I can't edit it as is, you need to save it as a .png. And please upload it at 1X, this forum has a built in zoom function (read the READ THIS BEFORE POSTING HERE thread.)

Just drop the number of colors/shades down like this (http://i.imgur.com/q3Zhx.jpg), add some variation (hue shift) and reuse the colors around the sprite. (Also fixed the backwards lean, flip your sprite horizontally to see this.) That's going to make it way easier to animate and also way better to look at. Other than that I'd say you have a good sprite going. :y:

I really like the mood and style that you have.  He looks like an actual man, rather than an androgynous infant.

I think that the main problem is the fact that he is pillow-shaded.  Pillow-shading is almost always a bad thing.

Sorry about the messed up img upload. Hope its ok now. I agree about the arm (backwards lean) and the pillow shading i will work on this and come back to you with result. Thx

Do you know what androgynous means? Because it seems really out of context here. Or do you think that most pixelated characters look to be half male half female?

Androgynous does not mean half-male and half-female in this context. He means 'of indeterminate sex', which is a definition of androgynous.

Ah, you are correct. Learn something new everyday. That definition makes more sense.
