I've worked with simple forum software before, and i should hope that simple machine forums have similar options.
It would be a treat if we had a 'word' filter
for
"[img]"
"[/img]"
which would change any instance of that string
to just regular
"[img]"
"[/img]"
image tags
The only place i can see this being a problem, would be if people wanted their signature image to link to a personal profile
As for benefits, no more needing to tell people about imageshack links
because
[img]http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/1246/walkbest3lr6.gif[/img]
would become
[img]http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/1246/walkbest3lr6.gif[/img]
What are your thoughts on the matter?
-
people linking in the signature shouldn't be using the img tags anyway. they should be using the nozoom tags. i think. if i remember rightly. which would solve that problem.
/is too tired to type more
-
It sounds like a nice idea. But somehow the existance of the nozoom tags should be announced, I guess.
-
oh i just thought of something. any link on an image that wasn't imageshack would not be removed but the /url tag would be removed creating a link through the rest of the post. i think? maybe i'll test it...
this is a test of the image with a hyperlink and no closing url tag.
EDIT: RESULTS IN: well there you go. it would work, it'd just look sorta ugly. but we could live with that.
-
Huh?
Also, YOU are not using the nozoom tags on your signature >:0!
-
...my signature doesn't link anywhere though ;)
what i meant was, the word filter would still filter out "[/img]" to "[/img]" without filtering the first url tag (because it wasn't and "[img]") on some forums if you don't close urls on images, the link continues throughout the rest of the post. on this forum though the first part of the code is just rendered as text. make sense?
-
Uhm yeah, I guess it won't be a problem anyway, since most of the people don't link their pictures unless they just copy imageshack's code (and if they do in the sigs, they will notice the ugly code going on and change it to nozoom tags, hopefully).

testing

I've tested it on our dummy board. replace
[img]
with
[img]
and
[/img]
with
[/img]
works perfectly, for all urls.
-
Yeh, done. If you wanna bind a link to an image [nozoom] should be used so this should not pose any problems, and also help to enforce the nozoom tag.
The nozoom thing IS mentioned in the rules btw.
-
I'm going to assume that the reason this thread makes no sense to me is because the word filter has been added and therefore whatever text was supposed to be changed to
[img] or [/img]
has been changed accordingly and therefore shows up as being changed. It would be nice to somehow post the text that is changed to that so that people who didn't read this thread before the filter was applied can see what niftiness has been added.
-
Basically if you have any followed by a [img], and the closing tags for such a combination the [url] part will be removed. (http://*)
-
Ah, okay. Cool that that has been changed :y:
-
am i the only one that thinks every "......" to "......." is exactly the same? what changed....?
-
Now "[ url=*][ img]" and "[ /img][ /url] are filtered and will only come up as img tags.
-
Good against those people who keep posting pictures with a link to imageshack (or something similar) making zooming in by clicking a pain.
-
now we need an announcement so people who don't obsessively read every topic will know about the change and the need for nozoom tags now.
-
There are people that don't? :P
This is a good idea; it'll be nice to see topics without "Please remove imageshack link." posts.
-
so, now you can post images without having to remove the url tags? Oh we are getting spoiled here :P

I would like to propose a new word filter - any posts including the word "runescape" are deleted and the user is sent a warning for posting eyeball-raping "pixel art"...

bad form.
-
I've been trying to understand why all the bad runescape art. Is it because they sell sigs to each other for 'runescape money', so there's some sort of faux-economy that calls for such. But then why pixel art sigs and not photoshops?

Yes! Exactly - why pixel art? It's displayed at 1x, and there is no real retro theme that I can detect, at least in the stuff that ends up here. So i mean, stylewise, there does not seem to be any advantage over photoshop...my guess is a lot of the sigs are probably made up of other people's line art, and the thought is that pixel art is kind of like a coloring book. You just hit "fill area" and then you have your colors and ta-da you're done? I don't see any other real advantage to the approach given the subject matter and general style.
also, my apologies if my previous comment overstepped some boundary, but I did think very long and hard about every piece of runescape art that has ever been posted here (that i am aware of) and was not able to find any convincing contradictions. This is no claim to my own quality of work or professionalism (and in fact probably reflects poorly on the latter), just a strong trend with no apparent counter-evidence.
-
But then why pixel art sigs and not photoshops?
My first guess would be because absolutely everyone has a similar program to MSPaint, whereas those with Photoshop would be lacking. People who are skilled with Photoshop would probably have better places to show off their skills, also. :y:
[Written before AA's reply] :mean:

All wrong. Pixel-art makes you cool. Anyone can do photoshop, it takes pro skillz to be abl to place dots in the correct way.
Runescape is for losers. making a pixel-art sig for their clan buddies or wateva they are gives them that little bit of hope that they might actually be cool one day.
-
I don't think Runescape is for losers, because I haven't tried it. Terley here is from a runescape background, also Godslayer I think. Perhaps they can fill us in from that point of view?
-
oh i get it now, i saw the thread after the corrections had been made, so the original post got corrected too. d'oh!
here's what i dont get. imageshack.us provides a direct link to images with every upload free of junk tags. thats what I [ ctrl + a - c - v ] whenever i use it...

Not everyone is as observant as you Adarias :P
