So I've started work on making a character sprite for a game. By work I obviously mean edit, and by started I mean I'm not an artist and cannot draw very well at all.
Here is what I started working from (linky to source (http://gam3ly.atodev3.com/category/events/))

Also I was browsing the forums and liked this sword: Sword thread (http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=6177.0)
And here is what I edited into:

I'm not sure if two swords is the way to go. It might definitely need to be longer though. All comments welcome.

For the sake of art I think you should start it from scratch and reference to that one, not just edit on it!
About the swords, I don't think they need to be longer 'cause:
1. they already distract from the character as long as they are now
2. it's gonna be a problem when you've got animation to do, the sprite is gonna be REALLY big!
btw, how are you gonna use a sprite like this in a game? It's viewed from the front!

My plan was have a perfect base to start from and then get to work on changing to a side view.
You raise good points,
I'm not too worried about the size, its more of a learning exercise.
