The magma core erupting is a nice touch.
Why the perfect spiraling debris into the left side? Makes it look like a something is sucking it in . . .

Yeah the original idea was to have it sucked into a wormhole of sorts, I may or may not still add that. Next I need to work on breaking up the dark background for the stars with some dithered spots and figure out how to position the whole thing and if I need to resize the canvas for it.
-
My biggest thing is the spherical shading on the planet. It seems a bit flat. I suggest less light hitting the planet's right-side, then maybe add a fringe of light, from a secondary light source illuminating the right edge.
-
(Sorry, I had to cull your superfluous posts)
Lookin neat. I like the subtle dither in the bg. Why blue for the secondary light? Seems like you'd just use one of your lighter beige colors for dat.

I tried the beige but it just looked terrible to me.
EDIT: Latest one in the original post.
And I like to post the updates like that, makes it nice and easy to see the progress. ;)
EDIT: Alternative ( aka me and the spiral had a falling out.)

I actually like the one without the spiral. Makes it look bigger. Maybe add some magma to that. And I'm guessing the left side of the main body is WIP, because right now it look like the planet is being stretched like clay.
-
Does it look less clay-like now? I added some craccckks.

Spiral stays though, I like it. :P

Think I'm going to call this done. Here's what it is now.
