Myself and a friend have begun working on a 2D RPG.
This is my first attempt at creating the protagonist, Eleanor, as a sprite

Any thoughts on how i can improve it?

Looks cute.
-I would suggest less texture, as it looks a little busy. Especially the hair and hood?
-A few less colors as well. Some are hard to tell apart and don't add anything.
-Maybe a slightly off-center light source. Would add more depth.
-
-I don't think you need the black on the arms, it gives it a weird bad anti-aliasing/ broken outline look because of the contrast.
-The hood also has outlines and if they're shading they could be tones down a bit but if they're shaded outlines they could communicate that more.
-first shade the form of the hood before adding texture on top of it.

Okay Thank you guys i will give it a go - I'll post the results including the sprite sheet when i finish it!

Version 2
I tried to focus on where the light would be coming from and where shadows would be cast - still not sure about the hood but it's better than it was

looks a lot better now.For the hood just look at reference images to see shading but I'd say lower the contrast a bit so it looks more fabric.May be easier to look at hoods on sprites in the same style.

Okay so i've spent alot of time working on this sprite sheet
Heavily focused on reshaping the cloak and shading
One thing i know i still need to do is change the shading for the right facing set
What do you guys think?

Focus on your clusters! Try to avoid single-pixelwidth lines and visual noise. The problem is most visible on her back, because of the single-pixelwidth lines it gives to a sort of stepped or even ripped appearance, rather than giving the impression of folds!
Try to group the colors more, err on the side of larger color groupings and see how it looks!

Nice improvement!
On the front facing, the point of the hood doesn't seem to match the side views. Also, the hair seems more busy than it needs to be. The rear facing view looks good. A nice effect with the folds. The only nit pick there is the banding.
Some fixes? ...

Back again guys - So I've been working and reworking this sprite for the last month or so.
This is the final shape I came up with and I decided to properly try my hand at building a colour ramp via hue shifting (the middle one)
What do you think?

The colors are certainly better, but I'm not sure about the resolution change! The stylism doesn't quite work with the new sprites, the arms especially make her look like she's cringing a bit. Try to do some work on the arms and shoulders to see if you can fix that!
