I'm trying to draw a guy with glasses 32x32. This will be used at 2x or 3x zoom and it's meant to look SD.

Any tips? I'm finding it difficult to make the glasses stand out.

I don't know what SD means, but how does it look if you remove the eyes (iris, pupil) and just leave the glasses (blank)?

Yeah, good idea. That looks more like glasses now.

May I suggest that you draw it from scratch at bigger resolution instead of rescaling it? from the looks of it, this doesn't look too hard to do regardless of the size. Also, use round shading like how characters look in rpgs, instead of shading from right to left. :)

Anti means top-down lighting I think. Right, farea? Otherwise your environments will need to have lateral lighting too, in order to match. The less directionally indicative light you have on yer char the better, I say.
No need to post enlarged versions here, we gots a script that handles it - just click the image to enlarge. ALT-click to decrease.
I like the opaque lenses.
SD, or chibi, same thing I guess.
Bump up the hair detail contrast.

I tried to take everyone's advice (thanks!) and tried a larger resolution version; he's hopefully rounder with less side-to-side shading, and I altered the contrast.

Any suggestions for improvements on this version? The hair gave me no end of trouble.

Your perseverance for the hair paid off; it's nice. He's a pretty nice little sprite.
My main crit is lack of character. That grey sweater doesn't help. And I don't know your intent here, but he could use some pizazz to make him a more captivating character.
Overall, you have a nice result here, though.

I'm digging the final result. My main suggestion would be to add some glare on the lenses of his glasses. Right now they appear very flat and nothing at all like glass.
A more vibrant palette could make him appear more interesting, as Mathias said, but I'm actually pretty fond of his current color scheme.
The glasses really are the only thing throwing it off for me. It's very strange that the glasses are just white, with little black pupils.
Great work, it's a definite improvement over the previous, especially the hair!
