It is supposed to be somewhat cartoony,however I am unsure if the dirt tiles fit in with that theme, and if not, what does.

Try something simplified and chunky. Earthbound might be good inspiration.

In my very humble and inexperienced opinion this is a definite improvement. I think one thing to consider might be that the rocks seem to be a very similar color to some of the elements of the house. The piece might be better served by desaturating the rocks in the ground a bit.
Again, I am pretty new to pixel art, so take this with a grain of salt.

I think you should possibly try to add some more elements in there. Things like Roots, Pebbles, etc. Not all rocks look the same and there's much more in the ground than just rocks so trying to show some of that stuff could add more variety into it.

I was actually about to suggest much the same as Infinity!
I added some stuff to this to make it more visually interesting, like a sidewalk and grass. I was going for a sort of "torn out of the earth" look too, so some iron bars holding up dessicated chunks of sidewalk felt like a good addition for that.
I got kind of lazy on the rocky bits below, but hopefully what I was doing still gives you some ideas!

Exactly what I was going for! If Coldmage takes it even further it could become an even more beautiful piece of art!
One idea I also have is that you could throw in some sort water coming from somewhere, whether it be some drops coming from under the island, or even a sort of river running off the side of the landmass itself; though you would need to make the island bigger which is only if you wish to expand the size of the design itself which is up to you! If you did so, you could possible rather/also throw in a tree or too to help lighten up the atmosphere! Just some suggestions. I believe they could help create a more beautiful atmosphere. ;D

I think it's beautiful. I agree though maybe its best without the tree :)
I love the drip of water though! Nicely done.

So I made what I think is pretty much the final version of the island:

And so, I moved onto the thruster portion.To clarify the chute is for people to be shot out of, and the thrusters are to keep it flying:

Something seems off about the thruster animation, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
