I need help figuring out where to go from here.

Really need to up the contrast.
One pixel AA on hat edges isn't helping dejaggification any.

I do like those colors,  more, but you still need to up the contrast a bit, like surt suggested. Changing the saturation is fine, but you really should modify the contrast,especially in the red tones. Also, the hat isn't really shaded, but rather banded with a highlight around the brim and top.

The middle circular area feels a bit flat, maybe adding some curve to the highlight over the red area could help. It's a pretty neat concept. :)

Hm. Tried to make his head look rounder. I didn't like the way it looked with the curvy highlight.
I adjusted this quite a bit..

Keep upping that contrast, its still far to dark. and try taking out a few of the mid shades as they're wasted colours. I do like the base design though, very cool.
(top hats are always a plus in my books)
