Use this palette! Make 16x16 icons. Likeso
(http://www.locustleaves.com/pixeldaymockup.png)
Any person is free to make any number of tiles they feel like that can be completely unrelated to my tiles or they can continue some of my tiles. Anything from 1 tile to 16 of them. They post them here. Tiles will pile up for a few days (I'd say 'whatever we do just today!!' but I think that's pretty unrealistic. Anyway we'll know when we have enough) making little 'exquisite corpses' with each other. Try not to make too many tiles that continue your own tiles cuz where's the fun in that? Keep in mind you don't have to follow anyone else's tile if you don't feel like it, you can just make your own stand-alone tiles.
At the end of a set time we gather up the tiles we have and we can then do two wonderful activities. One of them is to assemble the connected tiles in obvious (and less obvious!) ways. At this stage we are free to alter the tiles of another person slightly (background colors etc) so they fit, but not super-too much, where's the fun in that. After - or sideways - to playing exquisite corpse with each other, we can see if we can make bigger pictures with the tiles we have acting as meta-tiles. The possibilities are endless in this! After a week is done, we collect and make a banner and feature as usual, listing the names of the participants and giving out cookies for happiness!
This ends on 16/8! Get to it :)

it's not pixel day here yet, so i guess i'll hang back and watch europe celebrate like we do every holiday :P

No animations, I presume?
-
Best not.
-
Hey guys, just woke up.
Did you watch the olympics innaguration? they used a kind of similar concept, with all the people dancing to make up a sort of screen. The dedication and teamwork of orriental people always makes them stand out.
I'll post some tiles soon.
EDIT: to the guy who wanted to animate, you could probably make a 8 or 16 frame animation, and then output each frame here, if you wanted to
-
Wheee! Good fun, this.

-
I fixed these up a bit, now they almost look decent (by my -very low- standards).
From left to right: A knife, A hand doing the "horns" sign, a mini fadatar of a priest, an eye, an 8ball, Grim Fandango, A house on a hill, a nose, corpsepaint, a cleft.
-
Well this is awesome. I leave tomorrow to France, and get back the 16th :\

Can't say I'm really satisfied, but I love this palette, I should make something more with this.

Working at such a small size is challenging and fun! ;D
Here's my first eight!
- Solar Eclips
- Pentacle
- Meditation with chakras
- YinYang
- Woman in fetal position
- Sun and Earth (or possibly Moon)
- Woman sitting on the ground
- Crescent moon over a lake in the wilderness

More!
Hold on. Are we allowed to do that? Because I'd gladly make more as well.
Also, there seem to be a couple of tiny cutoff issues. Both Fatalis67's first picture (the brick wall) and Emtech's last one (the cleft) are only 15x16's. Don't bother asking how I noticed this.
-
well longcat is longcat, but I don't think anyone's gonna be all >:( if you do more longtiles

Hey! Isn't there a limit of 16 tiles.
-
Any person is free to make any number of tiles they feel like
-
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c62/markusrosse/pixel/pad08a.png)
-
Real quality stuff, dudes. Start assembling bigger pieces from the tiles perhaps? You are
:free to crop out, or alter the colors of the 'background' of each tile
:free to flip, rotate or mirror any tile as you like
:optionally, free to position tiles not just on 16x16 grids but with any kind of offset that suits the art you're going to make. Be create, make exquisite corpses!
-
I`am to late? ???

Bah, I got nothing for the Pixel Gods, even an excuse. Now I'm probably going to burn on a pyre, in the flames of gods' wrath! :(
Start assembling bigger pieces from the tiles perhaps?
How much time do we have for completing this stage?
-
Ahh.. Finally finished making all 16 little tile-thingies. Touched up on some of the first eight too.

Here's a fun test made with all (or at least I tried to fit them all) of the tiles you guys made. Of course the subject had to be Helm, since he's the one who started this activity :D I was astonished by the sheer amount of unique tiles; there were over 400 of them! That's over 100,000 pixels! Great job guys!
Sorry for the bad quality of this mosaic picture, the program I used wasn't registered so it allowed me to export only jpg :( But I will update it if I find a way to make it better!

-
wha... what!? That's amazing! Is there a program that does this, you feed it the tile data and it churns out mosaics?
-
Yup :) The one I used is called Mazaika. It was a helluva job to crop each tile to a unique file, tho :blind:
PS. and I didn't have any hi-res picture of you, the quality could've been better with better source image :D
-
Whoooaah! That is AMAZING! :o ;D
I am so totally impressed! Mannaged to find my tiles too!
It's a keeper! *saves*
-
wow ;D the effect is quite nice, the tiled look and the golden pallete go really well together.Gives out a delicious candy like look...Going in and seeing how all the little pixels have a mind of their own is awesome. We should do some more of these =0
The program to me seems to pick a few tiles most fitting for each color and use the same over and over...doesnt seem too concerned with variation. if we're using this program I think it'd be good to divide the big picture in different sections, then assign a set of tiles for each section...that way we assure all the tiles get displayed.
-
Mind uploading your tile file system for other people, tero?
-
AWESOME. That made my day.

I second this request. I downloaded Mazaika immediately after I saw this.
Actually, I was wondering if anyone would do this sort of thing. I would've liked to, but I just didn't know where to find a good photomosaic compiler.
-
I haven't tried this tool but it's in my bookmarks since ages, so maybe it's useful for somebody who doesn't like to download a tool for this task.

Here are the tiles. They are still missing a few, for example I can't get Conceit's tiles to show, so they are not in this bunch. But I will add them later if the link to his tiles gets fixed.

Nice to see that you guys liked the idea that much, it made my day ;D :y:
-
Seriously? wow. I wonder if they just make bad pixels or what....C_c

All I'm getting is a red X :'(
-
Conceit's tiles:
can you see these?
-
No, still showing the red X. Even if I copy the url to an address bar and try access it straight, it shows only red X.

Well, in a picture that big you have over 10,000 tiles. That said, it means that every unique tile is used 26 times, if they are evenly divided. But of course they are not. But still at least there's a possibility that all of them are there, some more than 26 times, some less. To be sure, everyone should try to find all their tiles at least once and then report back to us if they didn't find all of them. :) At least I found all my tiles.

I uploaded Conceit's tiles to my Photobucket. Can you see them now?
-
Yes, thank you. Now I can add them to the bunch. :)
-
thank you guys! =o I dont know what's wrong...they show for me! Does my avatar show? :ouch:

Everything shows for me Conceit.

And man, that's pretty damn neat. Lol, the eye of horus is on Helm's eye.
Seen two of my tiles so far.
-
I found 13 of my tiles. I'm still looking for the clouds, the house, and the city skyline.

They are all there, I found them. Just look closer :) The clouds are bit blurry tho due the jpg conversion :(

I tried to think what image subjects would be suitable, but all I could think of was you.
Maybe people could post reference images here and then I could make more of them out of the tiles?
