I think that
Your shading is too gradient-like. You need to think about things geometrically, and while I sense you attempt this in a way, mostly what I see is very 2d, flat sheer shading right up the ramp, right up the object.
Your dithering is too over the top. Mostly, the best combination is somewhere in between the extremes you've described, if you're going to use dithering at all. You have to think- is this too grainy? Should I pull out this dithering? Because really, most of the time, blanket ditherism isn't going to look that great. A common problem is graininess, or just plain bad texture when using the technique. You have to be tasteful about it.
I wonder if that makes sense? Please, correct any misinformation within.

Do you mean gradient as in color value or shading? Or just both in general, heh.
I knew it was bad, I need some tips about good dithering.
I'll try out some different dithers, maybe combine them, then I'll repost. Study the greats, study the greats.

Both, I'd say. I mean, colors are your choice, but what I was mainly refering too is simply going verticalys up a color ramp on the object.
Are those buttocks?
-
Pointless post.
-
man that is the weirdest looking butt I have ever seen. Looks like the end of a traditional cartoon doggy bone. sorry to go way off topic. I'll post up some propper critique a bit later. I'm late at the moment

EDIT: Bo, I didn't think they need to see it, will edit this in a minute with the image.

why did you edit out all the old pictures? now nobody can see your progress.

Half the point of a good critique thread is to follow the process of betterment along with the artist and critiques! Don't do that! Bah! GRRR! NNNGH!

Sorry! :-[
