Title: Some nonsense
Post by: ptoing on September 16, 2006, 06:10:22 am
Some silly c64 hires stuff, 320x200, 2 colours per 8x8 tile. It's bigger than 8x8 because on the c64 you have a border and the bottom grey is touching the border and that looks a bit silly with no black around.

could you explain this hi-res thing? is it an actual mode on the c64, and how does it enable single pixels instead of double wide?

Also, you didn't do the 2 color square continuously. What were you going for?

Ruymaru, yes it's an actual c64 mode, called hi-res. my piece Eve and Waiting at Dusk are at hires as well.

The restrictions are pretty simple, but severe. They're made for typing programs, for christ's sake: 2 colors per 8x8 singlepixel character. Any two from the palette (which is better than speccy where you have to have two bright or dark version colors, but not one each). That is all. This is the only, BADASS restriction of the mode. 320x200.

I've been running an earlier version of it in a c64 emulator, and i'd say it still does follow all restrictions. I think it's possible to make some minor amendments to the colorbleeding by putting sprites on top of it.

I love the flaws in this one though, it gives it this nice Hanna-Barbera feel

edit: oh yeah, it says something like 'keep it old-school'
