Okay, this is probably the biggest newb question ever, but I've been wondering all day. What are the words like Heishi, Samurai, Ronin, and Arate for? Are they ranks, like PixelJoint? If so, how does your rank increase? Sorry for the dumb question, but I even looked in the Help section and it wasn't there... unless I didn't search good enough.

Ranks, increase with number of posts. With katanas are moderators.

Ah, I see now! Thanks!

Perhaps this should be added to the General Rules post? Oh wait. I just noticed that the list in that thread is incorrect. Here's the ranks:
1. Arate - 0-19
2. Kikori - 20-39
3. Yokujin - 40-79
4. Ashigaru - 80-159
5. Heishi - 160-319
6. Ronin - 320-639
7. Ninja - 640-1279
8. Jonin - 1280-2559
9. Kage - 2560-5119
10. Ikkitousen - 5120-??
Postcounts and titles beyond Jonin are extrapolated from the established pattern. Correct me if I'm wrong, mods.

Ranks should all be powers of two, if you ask me.
-
Hm? The required postcounts of all of them are 10*2n... If they were just powers of 2, the formula would have to be 2n+4 or something. It works rather well as it is, I think, especially since the current ranking results in rank changes at even 10s.

I'm so cool, I didn't even notice that blatantly obvious pattern. Nevermind, that works just as well. I was just thinking there should be some reference to bit numbers. Apparently there is.

Thanks robalan, that answered all my questions! :)
