Title: [WIP] Idle & Attack Animations
Post by: GarlicDipping on August 27, 2016, 06:50:31 am
Hi Guys, Lately I'm working on a small mobile game project to learn & practice pixel arts myself.

So I made some animations for my player character, MeowNya :

- Idle Animation

-Attack Animation

...And jump & fall animations are in progress right now. Wow, pixel art is tougher than I thought...

I'll keep updating my works. Any comments or critiques are welcome!

I'm not really getting an attack out of that, looks more like just a dash.
I'd extend the slash motion trail between the dash to give it more visual impact.

Yep, Actually I'm trying to make the character 'Dash Attack' to the direction where player swipes, and you're right, the motion trail is one big concern for this, because I can't just draw every motion trails for 360 degrees...

So I'm thinking about shader trick or pixel-perfect rotation techniques for motion trail sprites. Or ghosting effect, maybe...Dunno, Any Ideas?

Something people have done in the past that may work is that the blur could be part of a different layer, and have individual "pieces" of the effect trail behind the main character and follow their motion.  It's a bit hard to explain what exactly I'm getting at, but Joy Mech Fight has the thing I'm talking about, only with body parts.  Maybe, "putting it on a different plane," is a better way to phrase it...

Otherwise, I think the legs and dangling arm could have a bit more motion, and not so sudden a stop when the character attacks.

Thanks for the reference & comments, I'll check it out. And about the 'sudden stop', yeah, It would be better adding more frames or modify legs a bit...I'll give it a try, thanks!
