random GBA sized mockup.

let me know what you think.

W00t! New game, I think. Looks cool. Oh yeah, the japanese title is kinda wierd. There is no letter c in japanese. It should be spelled dokuchu. Densetsu means legend or folklore tale, etc. It looks like you got the english translation of it wrong. Dokuchu, I don't think that word exists in japanese. I think more of like a kata version of a foreign word. Legend of Doches, maybe that's the english translation. Seiken Denetsu - Legend of a Holy Sword. Good luck.
-
I think docuchu is the bird's name.
I like it alot, I've always liked your colorful mock ups. No crits.

... is that a Photoshop background I see? Are you breaking the sacred laws of pixel and succumbing to the forbidden gradients?! *points finger*
Meh, wether to use pure pixel or not is a personal decision. Works well in a game like this. Still think it would be nice to see it pixelated just to compare *shrug*
I really like this kind of style. High contrast, yellow versus blue/reddish shades and selective outlines. The hills in the back are a tad dull though, at least when they're overlapping that blue background.
Would be great to be able to test this game, but I reckon it's just for show right?

That is beautiful. Very Kirby-esque, metihnks.
And Snake, I don't think it's a gradient that he used in the background, but it looks sorta ... smudged?
-
I think Docuchu could be the name of the bird. Legend of Docuchu!

I think docuchu is the bird's name.

Aw, lovely and colourfully pretty as always. :)
-
I think it's supposed to mean Legend of Docuchu, Guardian of the Star Portal
I don't think the english is a translation, but rather a subtitle
-
Oh my cute! It just brightened up my grey, rainy day! I wish there were more commercial games out there that looked as sweet as this.

hey, thanks for the comments :)
yeah its called "legend of docuchu" and "guardian of the star portal" is the subtitle.
doesn't really matter though, i just made the name up as i was posting the image ;)
i think im renaming him "Dokuchu" though, its probably more correct, like Andy Tran pointed out.
snake:
gradient? that is quite an insult! ;) nah, but its a cloud image i drew ages ago in open canvas, i use it in 9 out of 10 of my mockups ;) too lazy to draw a new one.
i totally agree, the hills in the bg are a bit dull, im just to lazy to shade them :)
yes its just a mockup, it will never materialize into a real game. T_T

Stars, a japanese name, lovely colours, a blue bird, mario like backgrounds, whats not to like :)
-
I still love you, Kenneth. Don't you ever stop making this stuff.
-
sheesh, tsugumo's tutorial sure left a fixed idea. as if gradients were something bad per se (regardless of non being used here, and that technically speaking anything using shades consists of gradients all over)
really cool mockup, kenneth. i like how much you go into detail making a convincing GUI with this level progress bar, the clock and energy (though the stars are kind of missing there), or how there is something about to pop out of that plant. it leaves a lot for the imagination, how all this would look in action. the trail of eggs that follows dokuchu immediately evoked a nice gameplay idea, of how the bird itself actually is invincible, but you have to get the eggs save to the finish of each level, shielding them with it's own body. and enemies would all bounce off and wobble if they bump into you

I hate your talent. Your mockups always look better than 90% of the published games out there.

nice work ken. ;)
the cliffs look a bit 'new super mario bros inspired' no?
-
Nice! I like your mock-ups, they're always very professional. But why don't you ever make a game?! I bet there are millions of programmers trying to contact you to do a complete level and a complete spritesheet..
-
Make a game out of them. Gamedev.net have like billions of programmers.

Look at Kenneths website, he's made tons of games, dont blame him for wanting to make the odd mock up now and then.

You are so great at graphics, how do you manage to maintain your posture, eyesight, and physique with all of this...? And how about a social life and even your own confidence? Or...do you not? lol it's okay if you don't ;)
Anyway I really would prefer to make a game out of some of your mockups. That soccer game is soooo neat, and I am sure me and you could make lots of money if we work together with it. I am thinking of multiplayer online games btw
