Title: [WIP] C&C required: Lance Knight for a game.
Post by: KevinTrepanier on April 11, 2010, 07:42:45 pm
I'm working on a Flash platform game featuring a lance knight.
I have a first frame of the knight running.
I like what I have but I think it could go even further. I want to make it as good as possible before I start animating it.

Here is the original sketch:

And the current sprite all by itself:

[EDIT: April 28th 2010]

I've shrinked the palette down to 9 colors (including transparency). I'm not sure I'm using it to it's full potential though. Also made a new pose for the character.

Another minor update:

I would be very grateful for any comments and critics on the hero's sprite. The tileset is not complete but comments about it are welcomed too!

its pretty rad, but it kinda looks like hes wearing a baseball hat on backwards...

Hmm.. so true! Was supposed to be some kind of gem on the bandana. Not very effective yet.

Here is a new version:

I like it better. Less colors in the palette (10 including transparency), removed the gem on his headband and modified the hair (among other things). I'm not sure I'm using the palette to it's full potential. Looking to make the shape more defined..

Another quick update: I've tried mixing the colors a bit more (highlighting the red sections with some blue and vice-versa). It seems to give a bit more readability to the whole thing, besides feeling more dynamic. What do you think?

Here's a different approach. I've used your latest version as a base and have tried to implement your posted conceptart the way I see it. I've used flatshading to increase readability. This way it's easier to animate too.

Thanks to Rosse I was able to try new things. I kept the improved shape but decided to go with more shadings as it fits more the rest of the current sprites from my game.

His face might be a bit too dark though. I think I'll be ready to animate it quite soon!
