Title: Spider (newcomer drawing)
Post by: Frit on November 28, 2006, 05:45:44 pm
Hello all, I'm new to this forum, and also new to pixel art. I have been looking these kind of art for a long time, but now I want to start drawing too. This is my first pixel here, 6 colors:

I wanted to start with something easy, with a small palette. As you can see, I have a (small) drawing skill, but painting is really hard :S
Comments, tips and ideas for next images would be appreciate.

VERY impressive lineart you've got going here. I really like it. :)

As far as painting, I'd up the contrast severely and the saturation a medium amount.

I would say that right now having two shades INSIDE of the shadow looks weird, I suggest you flatten it and use the other one for AA:ing (i.e. smoothing it all out.)

Thank you for the tips, Aleiav. The contrast and saturation adjustments fitted well.
Jad, I don't know what AA means :S can you explain that?
This is how it's going:

Looking very nice! I hate spiders though, gives me the creeps :]

AA = Anti Aliazing. Take the "S" on the right. Itīs not exactly smooth is it? Then look at the left "S"where I have added one other colour(the other 2 colours mixed together) in between the two colours, in the places that requires it make to look smoother.

Oh and many that are new donīt know that you can zoom in on the pictures if you left-click it, then shift+left-click to zoom out. Just letting you know in case you forgot! :]

Cheers,

Lelle

KilledBysuicide is an excellent example of how AA can improve a piece, in fact, take a look at that thread, you could learn from what people said there..

Don't know why ur spider is orange though, and a spider isn't really that easy, haven't got a clue were to start with such a creature, are you working from any references?? look at them carefully if you are, work out the shape of the spider, make the most of your pallete to create texture (tarantula right?) so it'll be hairy, imo it'd be the way to go..

Heres a reference that could help..
