Well, for starters, I would stay focus on the shading for the sword. I would suggest to re-do your color palette and use better value. Your primary color is fine, but the shading to it isn't. It's too light towards the dark and it makes the shading too vague. I would say that you need to extend the palette with 2-3 colors on the shading, and 2 colors on your highlights.
Fix the thickness of the sword, too, it's uneven.

Blood is much darker than that. Use google as a reference for stuff like that.

I made an edit. I used colors that have more contrast, also changed the shape of the sword a bit.

Read this tutorial (http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299) if you haven't because it covers a lot of the mistakes you made there. By the way, it looks like you saved the image as a JPEG. That gives you a few hundred useless colors, so save it as a PNG in the future.
