Title: [WIP] Mr Big Pants
Post by: WhyteSeal on May 17, 2016, 08:02:45 pm
Hello. He is Big Pants.
His name tells a lot about him.

I basically am bad at shading even by knowing it's rules and I wanted to ask here for help.

Also if his legs seem to weird in this way feel free to change it.

Thanks.

It's not clear they're pants, they go up past his shoulders when normal big pants would be stopped at the armpits. As it is it looks like he cut arm and leg-holes in a bucket.

As for shading, practice makes perfect. Start small with spheres, cones, and other varied polygons and just keep at it doing more and more complex things till you feel comfortable with your grasp on it.

Fair enough. He can be "Bucket Man" too.

I'm confused—is all the black supposed to be his pants? Maybe give him a belt so we can tell?

With shading try starting with a lot more contrast than you would originally think. You have to zoom all the way in to even tell you did any shading. Also, you could try not using pure black.

He looks cool though so excited to see what you do to him.

This is going to be hard to do in pixel art, but I will try to explain.

His pants are not finished at his highest head point, but actually continue to go up.

He made holes for his face and arms at its lower part.

The pants don't go too high, so it won't seem anormal, (they should be big enough to stay balanced from the perspective of real physics, they will be just a little over the head and there will be the belt, to make it seem more like pants.)

I changed the color to not be pure black.

The design on him which gives a armor look is temporary and only a test.

It is supposed to look like normal pants in the finished version, but with shading.
THANKS!

Will he be wearing the belt like a headband? :)

In that case, imagine how suspenders would work, lol

Looking cool.  I had a little fun with him:

Take it or leave it—I was just taking a break and blowing off some steam.
