Current wip of the girl running (also included past running sprite for Gowe, pronounced "Go")

For those who remember Aurora, the bulk of the animation is complete! Since it's suppose to be "in-game" simulation, "dirty tooling" for Mode 7 and additive blending layers will be present. As well as some set in Pseudo-3d space (argh, enlarged pixels!?) But for this gif, I kept it clean. Used a lot of Gundam/Super Robot for reference. More to come!

Try removing some of the frames during the swing of the sword to make it look more powerful. It doesn't make sense that the sword changes orientation when he brings it to his body also. Lastly, you should add smears to when he is running off screen and when he swings the sword to imply motion blurs.
-
It's 2d flattening to represent 3d space, he's not really technically changing the orientation of the sword if you look at it again, unless his hand was twisting completely around. There will be a swoosh for the swing and dust when he takes off :D
-
Animated Music video is almost done, will be dropping soon!!!
-
Mr. Fahrenheit is right, your sword is rotating weirdly, it shouldn't end up this way at the end of the swing. If you're trying to simulate a 3D rotation, then I don't understand how the sword can cut something because it's not the right angle, and anyway, you don't represent the motion well enough to be understandable.
I don't have time to make an edit but I'm sure you get the idea.

I love the GFX a lot but the animation its good but needs like a little more work IDK iam not expert at this tbh but maybe faster would be better?
-
Yes! Hallfish, I'm glad that this project isnt abandoned, when the date came (was it november?) and nothing happened I thought we had missed out on a possible great pixelart music video. Glad to know it's still happening
I generally agree with most that has been said here, But I made an edit where I exagerated a bit two overshots, one in frame 2 and another in frame 14 so that you might see viscerally that the dynamism of the action can still be improved, obviously this is a minor tweak and a lot more can be done but hope this still shows you a general direction in which it can still improve.

PS: for everybody else, if you play this in a pixelart program (ggale for me) at about 5 100ths of a second each frame it improves A LOT, so I think what you get in a browser is a very different experience from what you'll see in the video, it'll look a lot better than what you might think.

I like conciets animation alot but there seems to be some strings or line in the animation O.O :D anyways good luck with the project mang and good job conciet ;D
-
Thanks conceit!
Tim/Mr. Fahrenheit I'll try to clarify the pose a bit so it makes more sense.
-
Also a wip of Aurora running:

Awww the girl is so cute! I can't wait to see her with the flowing hair in place.
The inner edge of the jacket in the background has a discontinuous brown line that looks like ' : ' , it's a bit strange, why cut it at the middle with some black pixels?
-
I guess I was just indecisive where the jacket should show and when the the shadow/behind it should.
Progress: (http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/031/f/8/f8f18886f634b3722346787ada25e14f-d5tccoo.gif)

Pretty final. Moved all her heads back one pixel so she didn't look so dopey.

Should I post screenshots on the video composited footage? I've been working on this for like... 6 months omg.

It shows. Also, that little strip of jacket in the shadow looks better now :3

The original doesn't have the light from the firing, so I just slapped on some yellow really quick for this gif.

Great job man looking great :D also that hat animation is pretty sick :D that happens to me irl too Iv got some kind of big 90 degree hats lol :D anyways uhm I'am not a helicopter expert but like shouldn't it be a little bit bigger? like to suit the proportions of the characters?
-
Animation is looking good Halffish, I wanna reiterate I'm glad to know there's an upcoming pixelart music video from one of pixelation's own.
I still see that topdown sprite walking south when I think of you. The way you redid lighting on the legs in each frame for that one always impressed me, not usual to see that attention to lighting in rpg walks (camus here :p)
I like how for the helicopter guy you animated the rope ladder shaking, you could've just left that non animated and people wouldnt have noticed, the girl's run is cute too. Maybe you could extend her legs forward more before contact to emphasize her enthusiasm?
Since most of the animation is done, is there still time to implement crits made here? not really sure how much revamping to imply with my crits :p
-
Camus!! Nice to see you :D Crits are always nice, and I'll try to update as much as I can before it has to go. I still have to find either a way to fix the sword swing, or mask it somehow.
DOT: yeah I definitely thought about that... but I decided to make the objects fit the composition with a screen size of 320 x 180, 16:9 ratio. My justification is that the characters are already deformed... lol the spaceships are even smaller than the helicopter.

Unfortunately the perspective is wayyyyyyy off. I don't have time to fix... next time I do something similar, I'm going to make a 3d model for reference. Sigh. 16 frames
