Post by: boyo1991 on July 25, 2009, 09:51:48 pm
hey everyone! im boyo1991, and im really new to this.. im a NDS game designer, and need to use pixel art in my works, sooooo, im taking it up cuz the artwork is amazing and can easily be appreciated and its fun!

so to kick things off, i want you to take a look at 2 of my most recent works..

they are both small as all of my sprites will be, this is because the DS has a small screen, plus the biggest sprites you can have on DS are 64x64 px..

Well for a start the space ship looks pillowshaded, and if you were going to do that, I don't understand why didn't you just mirrored it  ;D
Villain lacks contrast desperately.

To be honest I'm not familiar with the DS color limitations ... 8? 16? I'd like to know before I try any fixes

256 color max.. (per sprite/background)

and i didnt pillowshade, i was more trying to say the light source was coming from the top ;)

but yes i know what you mean

Well, that's pretty much the same thing. Therefore "pillowshading" isnt necessarily unrealistic, but seems so because a lightsource is rarely at the same (or almost the same) place as the viewer is.

unless it's intentional; you should probably lower the saturation, especially on the second piece
