Title: [C+C] [WIP] Scroll Keeper frog.
Post by: Verysillyhats on July 13, 2017, 06:57:40 am
Hey everyone,

A few years ago I left pixel forums and went to learn how to art better.
Here's my first pixel piece since. It's a frog intended for animation for a fantasy adventure turn based + platform game.
Looking for critique and I'll continue working on it. I really want to see what level I am at and where I can go forward.

It would be at around 200%-300% but I have heard it should work at all levels.
Thanks!  :)

Very top and back heavy, looks like he'll fall over backwards! Try widening his stance or giving him more of a hunched posture!

Widened the stance which I think grounded him more.
Gave it a bit of life for fun. Changed a few other small things, mostly shapes.

He's still pretty back heavy! Remember, you want it so the weight is central and going straight down!

Really cool character ;D

I think the cone of the hat is a bit out of perspective. The flowy animation on the scroll doesn't contrast very well with the stiffness of the rest of the animation. I think you need to pick a direction.

You need more contrast in your colours. This character will get lost in the background very very easily. All of your materials are shaded in pretty much the same way. Same number of colours in the ramp, they all react the same way to the light. Especially things like the buckles should be more bold with less gradation and more contrast and the skin should be a bit slick and shiny.
