Post by: Souly on October 12, 2006, 02:12:21 pm
Okay so I originaly was just playing around with the brush tool.

Then I tried working on the actual anatomy and such...
Now I have two different arm positions.

The second pose has more power too it and looks more dynamic overall, the legs should probably be turned a bit more and I really don't like how you've been making shirts so awkwardly baggy lately. It really confuses the back of the character in the turned position. I'd say tighten the shirt around the upper back and have it fold in a spiralesque line from where it'd bunch under his arm and drape down to the lower back, but try to avoid the conelike look of the shirt you've got going as of now.

Well, Blick covered most of my points while I was typing, but I'll post it anyway :P

I like both poses, but for different reasons.  The first one's body looks much more natural, but the second one is much more dynamic.  So I guess the version that I'd like the most would be one mostly like the second one, but with the legs rotated so that it doesn't look like his torso is attached at a 90 degree angle to normal.  Perhaps try switching the legs; that is to say, put his right leg (our left) back as opposed to the other way around as you have it now.  Other than that leg issue, clean this up and it should be cool.

I'm having alot of trouble fixing up the upper torso.
I don't have anything to use as refferance so I'm only able to go from what I think looks right at the moment.

Use a mirror. Just see how far your torso can turn in comparison to your legs and lift your arms to see how you shirt folds and so on.

Nice. The twisting body looks so much more dramatic, great job.

I like the second one, but you used the same exact arm as in the first one (his right in first, left in second), just changing the hand and changing a few pixels. It looks kind of odd, and looks like the arm should be used for the view it originally was used for, cause some of the details don't quite fit.

First of all, new to the board, used to hang around on the old pixelation boards though.

Allright, to the CnC. I like the second one, for several reasons. I don't know how "serious" you were when you were making this piece, but if you were to swing that hammer as he is holding it in the first one, you would notice that it would take tremendous strength to get it moving. The laws of physics are a bitch, huh? :)

The second on is nicer, but since the t-shirt is pretty much just one color, I'm having a hard time seeing how he's turning. I'd say define a light source, so that you can apply shadows/highlights appropriately, that will sure work wonders for this one. The other thing might be a result of watching both pictures together, I'm not sure. But it seems that since you have used the same legs for both versions, his body is turned, but his legs are facing forwards, allthough they look a bit "backwards". His groin isn't really defined, so you don't understand understand if you're staring at his crotch, or his ass :) It would be really uncomfortable to swing a big sledgehammer with the same foot forward. Just think about it, you usually swing with the opposite hand/foot, to get the most out of your body. But this of course depends on what he's swinging at, if it's higher or lower etc.
