I thought the heads seemed large.

Smaller? Or did they lose there character.
The mockup shows the oldest designs for the characters.
The tile sets are place holders, I'll start on buildings and stuff now to get my mind of the heads..

hi there Souly: I like big head style. Depends if you want to give more emphasis on character expressions rather than body movements or equipment. Bigger head means more details on the face, and atm they are very good :) like 'em!
I think in manga style big head characters are called "super-deformed"

even better... the 3d perspective kicks ass :) are you going to detail the environment?

Been trying to decide what to do with this perspective..

I think the contrast of the black is really messing the readability of things. For the cool mustache guy I hardly notice anything other than the black. I have to connect the dots.

Ugh I hate cars. D:
And sorry for horrid trees, I'm just trying to figure out how it might look.

That perspective looks very off with that car and the street leading away. Look at the "AAAH NO MORE TREES!" thread and steal the help for trees.
Umm... why is a building in the middle of the street?

Can't say I have the readability problem with the mustache guy at all.
My thoughts from the mockup before last...
I like the angled walls but not the doorway in the angled wall (I can't say why - it's weird).
The road is too deep - in your first mockup the implied perspective works really well but I feel its being overruled by the really wide road (one aspect might be that the dashed lines aren't equi distant).
Overall I really like!
