Title: A fast practice
Post by: Slainte on May 13, 2006, 09:23:33 pm
It's been quite a long time since I worked with concept art as a base to a sprite so I had a try on a fast edit for someone in another forum... this is what I got as a start... suggestions?  (original concept here (http://www.liceus.com/cgi-bin/gui/03/atrvete.jpg))

it looks quite nice to me, but since you ask for suggestions:

i think the hair should be broken up into lumps, not dithered, since the sprite is so small

the darkest gray could be replaced by the lighter brown to make for a warmer pants tone and to free up anothre color slot

the same light brown could be used to frame the chin which at the moment is difficult to distinguish

the nose, which is clearly separate in the render, could use an outline.  he looks very normal here

if you want, take the lightest colro and gve him that bucktooth

had a try on your suggs... but the light brown gave him a beard so I finally changed the darkest gray to a new brownish and used this one to emphasize shadow and outline... dunno if it really works... It helps on the face for sure, and possibly the pants but I am not too convinced with the effect in the body shading
