So I'm trying to pixel some traditional art to see what happens.

Does anyone have any advice for pixeling cloth? I'm also thinking of removing the angel figure and just focusing on Christ.

the reference is bad,
The oil color is completely darkened or it's a bad reproduction - I can't say fo rsure.
In the line below however there are much better preserved paintings regarding to color - actually if you want to draw something with reference choose a good reference.

I'm going to stick with this picture, maybe I'll try a better referenced one next time.

Still am having trouble getting the folds on the arms right...

It already looks better than the reference

I think I finished the arms except for a little more polish; now I'm working on the bottom section.

Still looking for some C+C.

That painting by Goya is not his finest. I think at this point, you are improving upon the original, especially with proportion. The composition is also pretty sparse so there is not much to critique at this stage. Block the other figure in and then we may be able to help more.

Yes I think the overwhelming suggestion is to have chosen a different painting. Not that this is not interesting in its own right, it's just... the most interesting thing about the original painting is the grimyness and you don't have enough resolution in your pixel reproduction for that.

I think if you kept what you have now as is (in terms of composition) and added something humorous to the original painting (i.e. some little twist done in the same style), it would make it a much better piece.
