If you’re tired of playing Warframe like a traditional looter shooter and want to pivot into a space-ninja-themed slasher film, you need Kullervo. He’s a monster. Honestly, he’s one of the most satisfying frames Digital Extremes has released in years because he completely ignores the shield-gating meta in favor of raw, overguard-drenched aggression. But figuring out how to get Kullervo isn't as straightforward as just killing a boss on a star chart node and calling it a day.
You have to go to Duviri. And not just any Duviri—you have to play the mood cycles.
It’s a weird grind. It’s localized entirely within the Paradox. If you’ve been ignoring your Drifter gameplay because you prefer the high-speed bullet jumping of the Origin System, I have some bad news. You’re going to be spending a lot of time on a horse.
The mood cycle is your biggest hurdle
Most people jump into Duviri and wonder why they can't find Kullervo’s Hold. It’s because he’s a moody guy. Literally. Kullervo only shows up during specific emotional cycles in the Duviri Paradox. You can only fight him during Sorrow, Fear, or Anger.
If the current cycle is Joy or Envy, don't even bother looking. He won't be there. The island—Kullervo's Hold—exists, but the warden won't let you trigger the fight. It’s a bit of a time-gate, which is annoying if you only have an hour to play and the clock is stuck on Joy. Check your navigation screen or the Duviri star chart; it’ll tell you exactly how many minutes are left in the current cycle.
Finding the island and the Warden
Once the mood is right, head into the Duviri Experience or The Lone Story. I personally recommend The Lone Story if you’re just speed-running the farm, but the full Experience is better if you want to stock up on resources like Kovnik or Tasoma Extract while you're at it.
Look for the island called Kullervo's Hold. It’s a floating prison fortress that looks like it was designed by someone who really, really likes daggers. You need to find the Warden. He’s usually standing on a platform overlooking a large circular arena. Talk to him. He’ll give you a bit of lore, act all cryptic, and then the fight begins.
The fight itself is a three-stage ordeal. You aren't just fighting one Kullervo; you're fighting different "manifestations" of his guilt.
He hits like a truck.

Since you’re likely using your Drifter for a good chunk of the setup, make sure you’ve invested some points into your Combat Intrinsic. If your Drifter is weak, this fight is a slog. He uses his own abilities against you, specifically those Recompense daggers that can stagger you if you aren't dodging. Parrying is your best friend here. If you can time your blocks, you’ll create openings that make the three phases go by much faster.
Kullervo’s Banes: The actual currency
You don't get Kullervo blueprints as a direct drop from the fight. That would be too easy for Warframe. Instead, defeating him rewards you with a resource called Kullervo’s Bane.
- On Normal difficulty, you usually get 4 to 6 Banes.
- On Steel Path, you get 6 to 8.
Is Steel Path worth it? Only if your Drifter is decked out and you have some decent decrees. If you're struggling, just run normal. The difference in drops isn't massive enough to warrant dying five times and tilting.
You need a total of 42 Kullervo’s Banes to buy the main blueprint and all three component blueprints (Neuroptics, Chassis, Systems). If you want his signature shotgun, the Rauta, you’re going to need even more. Specifically, another 42 Banes for the full Rauta set. So, if you’re a completionist, prepare to fight this guy at least 15 to 20 times.
Trading with Acrithis
Once you’ve bullied the manifestation of guilt enough times to fill your pockets with Banes, head over to Acrithis. She’s the vendor found at the end of a Duviri run or standing near your ship in the Dormizone.
Under her "Kullervo’s Archive" tab, you’ll see the blueprints. This is a "pity system" done right. You aren't praying to RNG for a 5% drop rate on a Chassis; you are putting in the work, getting the currency, and buying the part. It's predictable. I wish more frames were farmed this way.
Why most people fail the farm efficiency
The biggest mistake is leaving Duviri immediately after killing Kullervo.
Don't do that.
You have to finish the entire Duviri run—meaning you have to kill the Orowyrm—to secure your rewards in some instances, or at least earn a Decree to save your progress. To be safe, finish the stage you're on. The Orowyrm fight at the end also gives you Pathos Clamps, which you’ll need anyway to actually craft the parts you just bought.
Each Kullervo part requires:
- Kullervo’s Banes (to buy the BP)
- Pathos Clamps (to craft)
- Duviri-specific resources (Ueymag, Sagalgina, etc.)
If you just farm the Banes and ignore the Clamps, you’ll be sitting on blueprints you can’t use. You get 10 Pathos Clamps per Orowyrm kill (15 on Steel Path). Since the total crafting cost for Kullervo is about 15 Clamps (and 20 for the Rauta), the math actually works out pretty well.
The "Secret" to surviving the boss fight
Kullervo is aggressive. He teleports. He uses Collective Curse to link you to other threats. If you’re playing in a group, have one person focus on crowd control while the others chip away at his health. If you’re solo, focus on Decrees that boost your "on-hit" damage or give you health regeneration when you melee.
"Tactical Strike" and any Decree that adds Cold or Toxin damage to your attacks will make the Warden’s puppets much more manageable.
Breaking down the total costs
To get the frame alone, you're looking at 18 Banes for the main BP and 8 Banes for each of the three components.
That is 42 Banes.
If you get an average of 5 per run, that's 9 runs. Each run takes about 20 minutes if you're fast. So, you're looking at roughly 3 to 4 hours of focused gameplay to unlock one of the most powerful melee frames in the game. That’s honestly not a bad deal compared to the nightmare that is farming Protea or Hespar parts.

Actionable Next Steps
Stop waiting for a random drop. Start by checking the current Duviri mood. If it's Sorrow, Fear, or Anger, jump into a Lone Story mission immediately. Focus entirely on the main objectives until you see the island for Kullervo’s Hold, then divert to kill the Warden.
Make sure you have at least 50-100 Ueymag collected from the cactus-like plants around the Helminth-looking areas of Duviri, as you'll need those for the final assembly in your Foundry. Once you have your 42 Banes, buy the blueprints from Acrithis and start the 72-hour craft. While he's cooking, go back for the Rauta; the status effect synergy between that gun and his kit is too good to pass up.
Final tip: Kullervo has no shields. When you finally build him, don't bother with Redirection or any shield mods. Go all-in on Health, Armor, and Ability Range. You'll thank me when you're hitting for red crits in the millions.
