You're stuck on the Yellow Wind Sage. It’s okay. Honestly, almost everyone who plays Black Myth: Wukong hits a massive wall at the end of Chapter 2 because that giant rat-king-demon-thing creates a sandstorm so thick you can't even see your own staff. It feels unfair. You’re dodging invisible attacks, getting knocked back by literal tornados, and wondering if the game is just broken. It isn't. You just missed a specific item.

The Wind Tamer is a Vessel. It's basically a legendary artifact that makes the hardest boss in the Secret of Kingdom of Sahālī actually manageable. Without it, you're playing on "Extreme Hard" mode. With it, you can ground the boss and stop the wind from tossing you around like a ragdoll.

But getting it isn't just about walking into a cave and opening a chest. You have to complete a fairly long, multi-step side quest involving a drunken pig and a hidden kingdom.

The Drunken Boar and Your First Real Obstacle

Everything starts with a pig. Specifically, the Man-In-Stone’s friend, a boar NPC who is slumped against a wall in the Fright Cliff area. You’ll find him near the Rockrest Flat Keeper's Shrine. He’s thirsty. Like, really thirsty.

He asks for a "Sobering Stone." You might already have one if you’ve been exploring, but if not, you have to go buy it from the Man-In-Stone merchant. If you haven't unlocked that merchant yet, you’ll need to beat the Mother of Stones boss nearby first. It’s a bit of a chain reaction. Give the boar the stone, and he moves to the Crouching Tiger Temple.

Most players get confused here. They look all over the temple entrance, but he’s actually up the stairs, near the entrance to the boss arena where you fought the Tiger Vanguard. He’s hungry now. He wants a Jade Lotus. These are everywhere in the water throughout the game, so you probably have fifty of them. Give him one.

Finding the Kingdom of Sahālī

After you feed him, he talks about a gold piece. He’s looking for something specific. You need to head back to the area where you fought the Stone Vanguard (the big rocky guy made of boulders). Nearby, there’s a path that leads to a large gate. If you have the Arhat Gold Piece—which drops automatically when you kill the First Prince of Flowing Sands—the boar will be waiting there.

You have to fight him. He’s not a tough boss, but he’s fast. Once you beat him, he doesn't die; he just realizes you're the "Chosen One" and leads you through the door.

This triggers a cutscene that transports you back in time. Welcome to the Secret of Kingdom of Sahālī. This is a completely separate sub-zone within Chapter 2. It’s a vast, sun-drenched desert that looks nothing like the rest of the craggy cliffs you've been exploring.

Beating "Fuban" to Claim the Wind Tamer

Once you're in Sahālī, you’ll see a massive beetle in the distance. That’s Fuban. He’s huge.

Before you fight him, you'll meet the Yellow Wind Sage—but a younger, friendlier version of him. He’s actually going to help you in this fight. The battle with Fuban is more of a spectacle than a traditional "soulslike" grind. You need to stay under him, dodge his stomps, and wait for him to burrow.

The trick is waiting for the Sage to call out. Eventually, Fuban will get stunned, and you can literally climb onto his back. There’s a giant crystal sticking out of his head. Hit it. Break it.

Once the beetle goes down, a cutscene plays where the Sage uses a magical artifact to subdue the beast. This artifact is the Wind Tamer. Because you helped him, he lets you keep it.

Why the Wind Tamer is Non-Negotiable

If you try to fight the final boss of Chapter 2 without this, the second half of the fight is a nightmare. The Yellow Wind Sage will summon a "Wind Wall" that restricts the arena size and constantly stuns you.

When you activate the Wind Tamer (by pressing the Vessel activation buttons, usually L3+R3 or your mapped equivalent), it does three things:

  1. It immediately disperses any active sandstorms or wind effects.
  2. It gives you a massive boost to damage reduction for a short period.
  3. It makes you immune to being staggered by wind-based attacks.

Crucially, if you use it right when the Sage starts his "tornado" phase, it actually knocks him down and leaves him vulnerable for a massive combo. It’s the difference between a 15-minute struggle and a 3-minute victory.

Missing Nuance: Don't Forget the Sobering Stone

A common mistake is looking for the Sobering Stone in the wrong place. While you can buy it from the Man-In-Stone, there is also one hidden in a jar in the Yellow Wind Formation area.

If you accidentally killed the Man-In-Stone or haven't finished his questline, don't panic. Go to the "Windrest Hamlet" shrine. Look for a small courtyard filled with glowing jars. One of those jars contains the stone.

Actionable Steps for the Journey

To get this done efficiently, follow this exact sequence:

  • Kill the First Prince of Flowing Sands first. You need that Gold Piece. If you skip him, the boar won't trigger the final portal.
  • Talk to the Man-In-Stone. Even if you don't need his Sobering Stone, he’s a vital merchant for late-game crafting materials.
  • Check your inventory for Jade Lotus. If you’re short, warp back to the Bamboo Grove in Chapter 1. The water there is full of them.
  • Equip the Wind Tamer immediately. Once you get it from Sahālī, it doesn't auto-equip. Go into your equipment menu and put it in the Vessel slot. It also gives a passive buff to your defense just by having it equipped, which is huge for the boss fight ahead.
  • Save your Qi. In the boss fight against the Yellow Wind Sage, don't waste the Wind Tamer in the first phase. He doesn't start the heavy wind attacks until he's at about 50% health. Wait for the screen to turn yellow and blurry—that’s your cue to pop the Vessel.

The Kingdom of Sahālī also contains some high-level materials and a gourd upgrade, so take five minutes to run around the desert edges before you leave. There’s more there than just the beetle.

Once you have the Wind Tamer, head back to the main path. The Yellow Wind Sage is still waiting, but now, you have the only thing in the world he’s actually afraid of.
