There is a very specific strategy for skill books New Vegas enthusiasts. If your skill is already at 90, and you read a book that gives you +4, you’ve reached 94. Does Luck Matter?
Not for finding them, but for the "hidden" skill book. In the Dead Money DLC, there isn't a traditional set of books you just find on the ground in the same way. Instead, you're looking for Vending Machine Codes. Once you have the code for a specific "Stimulant" or "Buff," you can use Sierra Madre chips to buy them. It’s a different system, but it serves the same purpose of making you an absolute god by the time you leave the Villa.
The DLC Factor: Adding to the Library
The DLCs didn't just add levels; they added specific instances of books.
In Honest Hearts, the Recipes of a Sizzlin' Steak books are often found in survivalist caches or caves. They feel thematic. In Lonesome Road, the books are scattered throughout the crumbling ruins of the Divide. Finding them is significantly harder because the environment is vertical and confusing.
One copy of Nikola Tesla and You is in the Old Creek Sunken Village. You’ll have to dive for it. It’s underwater. Most people miss it because they're too busy running away from Tunnelers.
