Finding Every Mondstadt Shrine of Depths Without Losing Your Mind

Finding Every Mondstadt Shrine of Depths Without Losing Your Mind

You’ve probably seen them. Those glowing blue stone gazebos scattered across the cliffs of Starfell Valley and the windswept crags of Brightcrown Canyon. They look important. They look like they hold something life-changing. And honestly? They kinda do. In the early game of Genshin Impact, the Mondstadt Shrine of Depths represents the single biggest power spike you can get without spending a dime or grinding artifacts for three weeks straight.

Each one contains a Luxurious Chest. That means 40 Primogems, a heap of Adventure EXP, and some decent 3-star or 4-star gear to kickstart your journey. But there’s a catch. You can’t just walk in. You need keys. And those keys aren't exactly laying around on the ground for anyone to trip over.

Where the Hell are the Keys?

Seriously, the game doesn't do a great job of explaining where these things come from. You’ll get your first few just by playing through the Archon Quest—specifically the "Prologue: Act II" portion. But after that? You have to go hunting.

One of the most reliable ways to snag a key is through the One-Time Domains. If you haven't cleared the Temple of the Wolf, Temple of the Lion, Temple of the Falcon, and Eagle’s Gate, do it now. These aren't like the artifact domains you'll farm later; they’re little self-contained puzzles and combat challenges that reward you with exactly one Mondstadt Shrine of Depths key upon completion.

Then there’s the Adventurer’s Handbook. Check your Experience tasks. Usually, around Chapter 4 or 5, the game starts handing these keys out like candy for completing basic milestones. Also, don't ignore the Ascension Quest. When you hit Adventure Rank 25 and need to clear that domain to keep leveling up, you’ll get three keys at once. It’s the game’s way of saying "congrats on not quitting yet."

The North Mondstadt Circuit

Let's talk geography. The northern half of the map is where most people get lost because the verticality is deceptive.

Starting near the Stormbearer Mountains, there’s a shrine tucked away on the northern side of the teleporter. It’s practically staring at the ocean. If you head slightly west from there toward Stormbearer Point, you’ll find another one. The view is great, but the hike is a bit of a pain if your stamina bar is still tiny.

Moving over to Brightcrown Canyon, there’s one hiding in plain sight. It’s overlooking the bridge that leads into Old Mondstadt (Stormterror’s Lair). Most players miss this because they’re too busy staring at the giant wind barrier or trying not to get blasted by a Ruin Guard.

  • Near the Thousand Winds Temple: This one is classic. It’s on the rocky ridge to the north.
  • Dadaupa Gorge: This one is actually easy to find but annoying to reach because you have to climb the southern cliffs.
  • Springvale: Look at the map. See that big lake? Go south into the hills. It’s perched on a ledge that feels like it shouldn't be there.

Why People Get Stuck at 9/10

It happens to everyone. You’ve combed the map, you’ve checked the interactive sites, and you’re still missing one single Mondstadt Shrine of Depths.

Usually, the culprit is the one in Wolvendom. Because the terrain there is so cluttered with trees and jagged rocks, it’s easy to walk right past it. It’s located deep in the woods, south of the arena where you fight Andrius (the big scary wolf boss). If you’re fast-traveling to the boss every week, you’re likely overshooting it.

The other "phantom" shrine is the one near Dawn Winery. It’s not actually at the winery. It’s way up on the mountain to the northeast, bordering the path toward Dragonspine. If you haven't unlocked the map for the snowy region yet, you might avoid this area entirely out of fear of freezing to death. Don't worry, the shrine is safely in the temperate zone.

The Loot: Is it Scaled?

Here’s a common misconception: people think they should wait until World Level 8 to open these.

Don't do that.

The contents of a Luxurious Chest inside a Mondstadt Shrine of Depths are fixed in terms of Primogems. You get 40. Period. The gear inside is decent for a level 20 player, but by the time you're level 90, a 4-star Berserker’s Bone Goblet is just fodder for your better pieces. Opening these early gives you the resources you need to actually progress. 400 Primogems (from all 10 shrines) is two and a half pulls on a banner. That matters way more when you're struggling to clear Floor 3 of the Spiral Abyss than it does when you're a veteran.

Mapping Your Route

If you’re going to do this in one go, start at the top of the map and work your way down.

  1. Hit the two in the Stormbearer region first.
  2. Teleport to the Thousand Winds Temple and grab that one.
  3. Head south to Dadaupa Gorge.
  4. Jump over to the Galesong Hill area near the coast.
  5. Circle back to Springvale and the Dawn Winery mountains.
  6. Finish up in Wolvendom and Brightcrown Canyon.

There is one more tucked away on the border of Liyue, near the Stone Gate. Technically, it counts as Mondstadt. It’s sitting on a cliff overlooking the marshes. If you’re coming from the south, it looks like it belongs to Liyue, but it requires a blue Mondstadt key. This is the one that ruins "perfect" runs because it feels like it's in the wrong country.

Actionable Steps for Completion

Stop searching aimlessly. If you want to clear these out today, follow this exact sequence:

Check your inventory under the "Items" tab. If you have zero keys, look at your Quest Log. If you haven't finished the Ascension Quest 1 at AR 25, that is your primary goal. That quest alone provides 30% of the total keys needed for the region.

Next, verify your Domains. On the map, one-time domains like Eagle's Gate have a diamond icon that isn't filled in if you haven't beaten them. Each of these is a guaranteed key.

Once you have all 10 keys, use the official HoYoLAB Interactive Map. Mark them off as you go. There is nothing more frustrating than having 1 key left and not knowing which of the 10 locations you actually visited three months ago.

Finally, save the Primogems. Don't spend them on standard banner pulls. Wait for a limited character that actually changes your gameplay style. Opening all the shrines is a rite of passage for every traveler, and once it's done, you never have to worry about those blue glows again.
