You've probably been running around the Coastal Bonescape for hours, staring at a map counter that says 4/5. It’s frustrating. Honestly, it's one of those things in Borderlands 4 that feels intentionally designed to make you pull your hair out. You check every cliffside. You look behind every Kratch nest. Nothing.
The Coastal Bonescape is the first real open area you hit in the Fadefields after the tutorial. It's beautiful in a "everything here wants to eat my face" kind of way. But if you're trying to 100% the zone, those Coastal Bonescape ECHO logs are your biggest hurdle.
Why? Because one of them doesn't even exist in the world until you've jumped through about six different quest hoops.
The One Everyone Misses: A Maker’s Mark
Let's just address the elephant in the room. If you are missing one log and you’ve scouted the whole map, it’s almost certainly "A Maker’s Mark."
You can't just stumble upon this one while exploring. It’s locked behind a massive chain of side content. You basically have to become the local errand runner for the entire region before this thing even spawns.
First, you need to handle the "Mob Justice" and "The Power Ballad of Rodd Vomit" missions. Then, you’ve got to talk to Tipsy Olivia at the bar in The Pit (which is technically in the Low Leys, but trust me, it’s connected). She gives you "La-La-Last Call."
Only after you finish that and the subsequent "Hangover Helper" does the mission "Ain't No Sham In It" become available.
When you finally get to the end of that quest, the ECHO log appears on the counter at Shammy’s bar. If you haven't done these quests, you can stand on that exact spot for a year and the log will never show up.
Where the Other Four Are Hiding
The rest of the Coastal Bonescape ECHO logs are a bit more traditional, but the verticality of the Fadefields makes them tricky.
- About the Doubt: This one is perched on the cliffs west of Waterstop. Look for the Kratch nesting material growing on a massive skeleton. It’s sitting right on the ground near the bones.
- A Prisoner’s Promise: Head to the southwest corner of the map. If you follow the coastline east of Stillshore, you’ll find a flipped-over canoe. The log is sitting right next to it on the sand.
- A Novel Find: This is near the center of the region, slightly southeast. There’s a giant skull resting against a rock wall near a Kratch nest. The log is sitting inside the base of the skull.
- A Hair-brained Scheme: Look for a ramshackle house sitting on the edge of a cliff, east of Sarrett’s Jetty. It’s way out on the western edge of the zone. You’ll find the log inside the house on a table.
It’s worth noting that Map Genie and other community trackers sometimes mix these up with "Dead Bolts." Dead Bolts are technically collectibles too, but they don't count toward your ECHO log total for the zone.
Why Bother With the Lore?
Borderlands 4 feels different. The writing is a bit more grounded than the "wacky for the sake of wacky" vibe of the previous games.
These logs actually build out the story of Kairos. You get a sense of the Crimson Resistance’s struggle and the weird, cult-like obsession people have with the Vaults on this planet. "A Prisoner’s Promise" is particularly bleak if you actually stop to listen to it instead of just grabbing it for the XP.

Technical Glitches to Watch For
Sometimes, the counter bugs out. I’ve seen reports on Reddit where players pick up the log during "Ain’t No Sham In It" and the game doesn't register it immediately.
If this happens, try traveling to a different zone like The Howl and coming back. Usually, the UI just needs a second to catch up with the save file.
How to Get 100% Completion Fast
Don't hunt these one by one. It’s a waste of fuel for your Digirunner.
Instead, clear the Order Silo (The Stockroom) first. Taking over the Silos usually unlocks better fast travel and gives you a better vantage point for gliding. Once the Silo is yours, use the "satellite" grapple points to launch yourself high into the air.
From there, you can glide down to the "A Maker's Mark" cliff area or the "About the Doubt" skeleton much faster than climbing.
Your Next Steps:
Check your mission log for "Mob Justice." If you haven't finished it yet, you aren't getting that 5th ECHO log today. Go clear the mafia-themed quests in the Low Leys first, then come back to the Bonescape to finish your collection.
