Find Dr. Giblets on Zephyr: What Most Players Get Wrong

Finding that elusive scientist isn't exactly a walk in the park. Honestly, if you're playing High on Life, you've probably realized by now that the game loves making you run in circles. One minute you're just a kid with a talking gun, and the next, you're trying to find Dr. Giblets on Zephyr while everyone in Blim City gives you the cold shoulder. It's frustrating. You’ve got the bounty, you’ve got the drive, but the map is... well, it's not helpful.

The G3 cartel doesn't make it easy to track their researchers. Most people think you can just warp to Zephyr Paradise and stumble onto him. You can't. There's a whole string of hoops to jump through in Blim City first, involving some "detective work" that’s mostly just an excuse for the game to mock you.

The Blim City Runaround

Before you even touch down on Zephyr, you’ve got to do the legwork. Gene—your lazy, three-eyed roommate—gives you this "Detective Mode" for your suit. It’s kinda cool, kinda useless. You have to head into the city and start scanning people. You’re looking for a pink outline.

Most people waste time talking to every random alien. Don't. You need to find a guy named Michael Taint near the pawn shop. Yeah, the name is exactly what you think it is. He’ll point you toward Blorto, the guy who runs the local "food" (and illegal warp disc) stand.

Blorto tells you about the High on Life store in the slums. This is where things get annoying. You have to trek all the way through the slums, deal with some 9-Torg remnants, and find a massive line of people waiting for a "Hyperbong" launch.

Getting the Mag-Boots

You can't find Dr. Giblets without the Mag-Boots. It’s physically impossible. When you get to the High on Life store, you’ll see an alien "trampled" outside. He doesn't need his boots anymore. Take them. These let you walk on those metallic, magnetic surfaces you’ve been seeing everywhere.

Once you have the boots, a couple of "suits" representing Magistrate Clugg will corner you. They aren't there to kill you; they actually give you the coordinate data for Dr. Giblets. Without this specific interaction, the portal to the correct part of Zephyr won't even work right.

How to Find Dr. Giblets on Zephyr Paradise

Okay, you’re finally ready. Head back home and use the Bounty-5K. You need to select Zephyr Paradise and specifically the Upper Valley or Deep Jungle portal. If you've already beaten the Skrendel Bros, the waypoint might be bugged and try to send you to the Laboratory Crossroads. Ignore that. Go to the Upper Valley.

Once you land, the vibe is different. It’s quiet. Too quiet. You need to head toward the Moplet Village, the place you visited earlier in the game. But instead of going into the main village area, keep to the right.

  • Look for the Metal Arch: There is a large metal archway at the back of the village area.
  • The Mine Outskirts: You’ll pass through a familiar-looking mine area, but keep pushing through until you find a grapple point leading to a metallic wall.
  • The Dying Moplet: You’ll hear a voice calling for help. It’s a Moplet who has been—and I’m being literal here—cut in half. He’ll tell you a G3 base just warped in right on top of him.

The base is right around the corner from that poor guy. This is the spot. This is where you actually find Dr. Giblets on Zephyr.

Investigating the Base

Inside the base, the game forces you to use that Detective Mode again. You have to scan for clues to "find" him, even though he's clearly in the next room. You’ll find things like:

  1. Busted drone heads.
  2. Old hyperbomb prototypes.
  3. Random science trophies (he's apparently very proud of coming in second place).
  4. A lab notebook that shows he was getting incredibly paranoid.

The irony? You don't actually need to find these clues to progress. Kenny or whichever Gatlian you’re using will eventually get bored and just tell you where he is.

The "Boss Fight" That Wasn't

When you finally confront Dr. Giblets, don't expect a Dark Souls-level encounter. You walk in, he gets scared, trips, and... well, he dies. He literally kills himself by accident. It’s the ultimate anti-climax.

But don't get comfortable. The real fight starts after he’s dead. His base goes into lockdown, and you have to survive several waves of G3 enemies in a confined space. It's actually one of the harder combat encounters if you aren't prepared.

Combat Survival Tips

Since the room is small, use Sweezy's Time Bubble to slow down the rushers. There are snipers in the upper rafters that will absolutely melt your health if you stay still. Keep moving on the walls with your Mag-Boots.

Also, don't forget to grab Lezduit. He’s the massive, multi-barreled Gatlian sitting on the table. He’s arguably the most powerful weapon in the game, even if he can only say one thing.

Why the Waypoint Often Breaks

A lot of players get stuck because the game’s waypoint system is notoriously buggy during this bounty. If you find yourself staring at a wall or a locked door, check your inventory. If you don't have the Mag-Boots, you missed the step in the Blim City Slums.

If you have the boots but the portal isn't working, go back to Magistrate Clugg’s office. Sometimes the "Map Data" doesn't register in your inventory unless you interact with the table in his office specifically.

Finding the doctor is less about the destination and more about following the very specific, very weird breadcrumbs Squanch Games laid out.

Moving Forward After the Bounty

Once the base is clear and you’ve secured the DNA, don't just warp out immediately. There are several Luglox chests hidden in the Upper Valley area that are only accessible now that you have the Mag-Boots.

  • Check the metallic walls near the entrance of the base.
  • Look for the high ledges back in the Mine Outskirts.
  • Return to the Moplet Village to see if any new dialogue has opened up (it usually hasn't, but it's worth a look for the jokes).

Head back to the Bounty-5K and turn in the DNA. You'll get a decent chunk of Pesos, which you should probably spend on the Dura-Health upgrades at the pawn shop. The bounties only get harder from here, especially once you start heading toward Nipulon.

Grab the Jetpack fuel capacity upgrade while you’re at it. You’ll need the extra air time for the platforming sections coming up in the final acts of the game.
