You ever feel like a complete fraud? Diallos Hoslow does. He’s the guy at the Roundtable Hold leaning against the wall, looking like a million runes in his polished silver armor, talking a big game about how "the tale of House Hoslow is told in blood."
Except it isn’t. At least, not at first.

Most players actually lose Diallos here. If you kill Rykard too early, Diallos just vanishes.
To keep the Elden Ring Diallos questline moving, you need to head to Jarburg. It’s a hidden little spot in Liurnia, tucked under the cliffs south of the Carian Study Hall. You have to parkour down some giant tombstone ledges. Don’t fall; it’s a long drop.
Once you’re there, talk to Jar-Bairn. He’s a small, sentient jar who wants to know if you’re the "Potentate." You aren't. Your hands are too rough.
Go back to Volcano Manor, exhaust Diallos’s dialogue until he starts repeating himself about being a failure. Then, go back to Jarburg and pass time at the Grace. Talk to Jar-Bairn. Eventually, the little guy will mention a new Potentate has arrived.
The Heroism of a "Failure"
You’ll find Diallos in one of the shacks, tending to a small jar. He’s happy. His hands are soft, perfect for sliding inside jars to keep them moist and healthy. He’s finally found something he’s actually good at, and it has nothing to do with blood or legacy.
But this is an Elden Ring quest, so happiness is a death sentence.
The Poacher Attack
After you've talked to him in the shack, you need to progress the game a bit. Go kill a boss or just pass time repeatedly. When you return to Jarburg, the music is gone. The jars are shattered.
Diallos is lying in the middle of the road, dying.
He asks you: "Did I defend them? Did I protect them?"

If you also finish Alexander’s questline and give his "innards" to Jar-Bairn, the little guy will leave you the Companion Jar Talisman. It boosts the damage of your throwing pots.

Actionable Tips for This Questline
If you want to make sure you don't break the quest, keep these three things in mind.
First, don't kill Rykard until you've seen Diallos at Volcano Manor and Jar-Bairn has mentioned "poachers" in Jarburg. Killing the Lord of Blasphemy usually forces NPCs to move or disappear.
Second, if Jar-Bairn won't talk about a new Potentate, you probably haven't exhausted Diallos’s dialogue at the Manor. Go back, talk to him until he’s just sighing, then try Jarburg again.
