So, you’re trying to help Merida, but the game is being cryptic again. Honestly, the Dreamlight Valley Change Your Fate quest is one of those mid-game hurdles that feels way more complicated than it actually is, mostly because the clues are a little "riddle-heavy."
If you've spent more than five minutes wandering around the Storybook Vale DLC wondering where on earth a wolf drinks tea, don't worry. You aren't alone. This quest is Merida’s Level 7 friendship milestone, and it’s basically a high-stakes treasure hunt to stop Hades from messing with a DunBroch family heirloom. Here is the reality: Hades thinks this artifact can actually rewrite destiny. Merida just wants her stuff back.
Getting Started: The Prerequisites
You can't just jump into this. The game is pretty strict about the order of operations here. You need Merida at Level 7, obviously. But you also need to have finished her previous nonsense, specifically "Clan DunBroch’s Rules of the Hunt" and "Archery and Archrivals."
If she isn't giving you the quest yet, check your character log. You also need Mulan unlocked because, apparently, she’s the one Merida trusts with her secrets. Once you talk to Merida in the Bind, she’ll point you toward a bag in her house. That’s where the real hunt begins.
The Pegasus Statue Photo Trap
The first real "stuck" point for most people happens at the giant flying horse. Merida’s clue mentions a "fierce warrior with a bo staff," which is clearly Mulan. Mulan tells you she hid a clue under the wing of a Pegasus statue.
Here is the kicker: you can't just run up and grab it. You have to take a photo of it first.

- Location: Head to the Elysian Fields in the Mythopia biome.
- The Statue: Look for the Pegasus statue on the far right near the Fairy Tale Trial entrance.
- The Problem: The bag is tucked way up under the wing. If your photo doesn't register, it’s usually because you aren't zoomed in enough. Get the bag front and center in your camera lens.
Once the photo "takes," go talk to Merida. She’ll actually use her bow—a rare moment of her doing something useful—to shoot the bag down so you can grab the next clue.
Where the Wolf Drinks Spilled Tea?
This is the clue that sends everyone to the wrong place. The riddle says the next hint is "where the Wolf drinks spilled tea."
Naturally, most players run straight to Teapot Falls. It makes sense, right? Wrong. The "tea" is actually the river water flowing from the falls. The "Wolf" refers to the Wild Woods.
Don't waste your time in Everafter. Instead, follow the riverbank into the Wild Woods. Look near Goofy’s Stall. You’ll find a glowing Memory orb sitting right by the water. If you moved Goofy's stall, don't panic; the orb stays in its original spawn point near the river's edge.
The Library of Lore and the "Watchful Mother"
The third clue tells you to find your place in the world "under the eye of a watchful mother." This is a fancy way of saying go see the Lorekeeper in the Library of Lore.

Inside the library, there are a couple of globes. This is where the Dreamlight Valley Change Your Fate quest gets annoying. Many players try to interact with the first globe they see and get nothing. No prompt, no sparkle, nothing.
Go to the wing of the library that leads toward the Everafter biome. There is a specific globe there. Interact with it, and a Memory will pop out. This gives you a final picture of a location in the Bind.
Facing Hades (Sort Of)
The picture leads you to the bottom-left corner of the Bind, specifically a bookshelf tucked between two waterfalls. You’ll interact with the shelf, expecting a grand treasure, only to find... nothing. Hades beat you to it.
Classic Hades.
Go find him. He’s usually lounging in his house or wandering near the river. He’ll basically admit that he stole the treasure thinking it was a magical "fate-changing" artifact, but since it didn't do anything cool, he’s been using it as a dinner plate.

- Enter Hades’ House.
- Look to the right of his throne.
- Pick up the "treasure" (the Clan DunBroch crest).
- Bring it back to Merida.
Why This Quest Actually Matters
Completing this doesn't just get Merida off your back. You actually get the Callanish Standing Stones as a furniture reward. It’s a massive, atmospheric decoration that looks incredible if you’re trying to build a Celtic or "wild" themed area in your Valley.
The artifact itself—the one Hades was eating off of—is also returned to you. Merida tells you to keep it as a reminder of the adventure. It’s a small wall-mounted shield, but it’s a nice bit of lore for your house.
Quick Fixes for Common Bugs
If the bag under the Pegasus wing won't fall, try restarting your game. Sometimes the "trigger" for Merida to shoot her arrow doesn't fire if she's stuck in a walking animation. Also, make sure you aren't in a multiplayer session; some quest interactions in the Storybook Vale expansion are notoriously buggy when friends are visiting.
Actionable Next Steps:
- Check your biomes: Ensure you have the Bind, Everafter, and Mythopia fully unlocked, as this quest crosses all three.
- Level up Mulan: If she isn't at least Level 2, she might not trigger the Pegasus dialogue.
- Clear your inventory: You’ll be picking up three different "clue" items and the final crest; make sure you have the slots open so you don't have to drop your pumpkins mid-quest.
