Disney Dreamlight Valley The Final Trial: What Most People Get Wrong

Disney Dreamlight Valley The Final Trial: What Most People Get Wrong

You've spent hours staring at those giant, obnoxious purple mushrooms blocking the bridges in the Glade of Trust. We all have. It's basically a rite of passage in this game. You try to water them, nothing happens. You try to run through them, you're stuck. Honestly, it’s one of the most frustrating early-game roadblocks. But then you reach the end of the line with everyone’s favorite eccentric wizard, and suddenly, Disney Dreamlight Valley The Final Trial becomes the only thing that matters.

This isn't just another "fetch this, craft that" quest. Well, it is, but the stakes are much higher because it’s the literal key to finally opening up your valley. If you're tired of being walled off from half of your own kingdom, you need to finish this.

Getting Started (And Why Merlin is Ignoring You)

Before you can even think about those mushrooms, you have to be best friends with Merlin. And I mean Level 10 best friends. If you aren't there yet, start spamming him with those blue hydrangeas or whatever his favorite gift of the day is.

But here’s the kicker: even at Level 10, the quest might not pop up. You’ve got to have WALL-E unlocked and progressed far enough to have him in the valley. You also need to have cleared his initial "A Space Ranger Reputation" and "Village Project: The Garden" milestones. If Merlin is just standing there whistling and not giving you the quest, check your friendship levels with the little robot.

The Night Shard Grind

Once the quest actually triggers, Merlin starts off with a fairly standard request. He wants 5 Purified Night Shards.

If your inventory is looking a bit thin, you're going to need:

  • 25 Night Shards
  • 5 Dream Shards

Basically, go dig up every sparkling hole in the ground you see. Once you have the shards, head to a crafting bench. Don't just hold onto them, though. Merlin doesn't want the shards; he wants them "processed." This is where WALL-E comes in. Take those five purified shards to him, and he’ll crush them into a fine powder. It’s a weirdly specific step, but hey, that’s wizardry for you.

Finding the Weird Stuff: Falling Water and Ice Hearts

After you hand over the powder, Merlin gives you a book. This is where most players get tripped up because the game stops holding your hand. You need three things: 25 Mushrooms, Falling Water, and an Ice Heart.

The mushrooms are easy. Just pick them up in the Glade of Trust or use your current watering can to zap the small mushroom patches. But the other two? Those are unique to Disney Dreamlight Valley The Final Trial.

Where is the Falling Water?

Don't overthink this. The clue "Falling Water" is literally just a waterfall.

Head to the Glade of Trust. Walk all the way to the southern edge of the map, specifically where the river flows off the edge of the world into the abyss. You’ll see a golden sparkle right at the lip of the waterfall. Interact with it, and you’ve got your vial of Falling Water. It’s not in a chest; it’s just sitting there on the ground near the edge.

How to grow an Ice Heart

Merlin gives you a seed. It’s called an Ice Tear Seed.

You don't need to go to the Frosted Heights for this. You can plant it anywhere. Just dig a hole, drop the seed in, and water it.

Now, wait.

It doesn't take days. In my experience, it grows in about a minute. Once it sprouts, harvest it, and it transforms into the Ice Heart.

The Moment of Truth

Take everything back to your crafting station. You’re looking for the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment. It’s under the "Potion and Enchantment" tab.

Ingredients check:

  1. 25 Mushrooms
  2. 1 Falling Water
  3. 1 Ice Heart

Craft it, run back to Merlin, and he’ll do his magical thing. Your watering can is now officially maxed out.

Does it actually work?

Yes. Finally. Go to those massive mushroom clusters in the Glade of Trust—the ones blocking the stone bridges. Use your watering can. They’ll vanish into purple mist, and you’ll finally be able to walk across the bridges without having to move your Well via the furniture menu just to get to the other side.

Once you’ve cleared the path, talk to Merlin one last time. He’ll give you his Marvelous Wizard Hat. It’s a great piece of clothing, but honestly, the ability to delete those mushrooms is the real prize.

Next Steps for Your Valley

Now that the bridges are open, you should focus on gathering the hardwood and clay that’s been sitting unreachable on the other side of the Glade. Those resources are notoriously slow to farm, and having the full biome open makes a massive difference for future building projects. Also, keep an eye out for the alligators now that you have more room to chase them; they like to hang out in those formerly blocked-off muddy areas.
