Hunting down every giant toad in the Depths is a bit of a marathon. If you've been wandering around the dark underbelly of Hyrule, you've probably run into a Frox—or more likely, it’s run into you. These things are basically the "Stone Talus of the Depths," but with a lot more jumping and a weird obsession with eating your Brightbloom seeds.
Honestly, finding all frox locations totk is essential if you’re trying to upgrade the Depths Armor set or if you're a completionist aiming for that Frox Monster Medal from Kilton’s brother, Gralav. There are 40 of these behemoths in total, tucked away in the shadows.

Finding the Standard Frox: The Central Hyrule Squatters
The "basic" Frox are mostly clustered in the central and southern parts of the map. You’ll find them hanging out near the Great Abandoned Central Mine and stretching toward the Gerudo region.
One of the easiest ones to find is right near the Nuzimak Lightroot, just south of the Grove of Time. It’s a great "starter Frox" if you’re just getting used to the rhythm of the fight. Another one sits Northwest of the Stakijat Lightroot.
If you head further west towards the Abandoned Gerudo Mine, you’ll run into a few more. Specifically, look west of the Amakawis Lightroot and north of it too. These standard versions are your best bet for farming regular Frox Fangs and Fingernails without getting flattened by the more aggressive variants.
Tracking Obsidian Frox: The Middle Children
Obsidian Frox are where things start getting a little spicy. They have more health and usually drop Obsidian Frox Fangs, which you’ll need for higher-level armor upgrades.
You can find a solid cluster of them around the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. There are four of them scattered in that general vicinity. If you’re over in the Hebra region, check the area running from the Abandoned Hebra Mine up toward the Gleeok Den.
Key Obsidian Spots:
- Rhoam Canyon Mine: East of the Sikurukam Lightroot.
- Gerudo Desert Depths: Look for the ones near the Tatayam Lightroot and southeast of the Abandoned Kara Kara Mine.
- Faron Region: There’s a lone one south of the Floria Canyon Mine that people often miss.
- Hyrule Field Area: Check north of the Gadohsi Lightroot and south of the Nihcayam Lightroot.
The Obsidian Frox is sort of the bridge between the easy kills and the "oh no" moments. They’re tougher, sure, but they still follow the same basic logic: shoot the eye, jump on the back, smash the rocks.
Blue-White Frox Locations: The Heavy Hitters
The Blue-White Frox is the top-tier variant. They are meaner, have significantly more health, and can shake you off their backs much faster. Most of these are tucked away in the corners of the map or under the most treacherous terrain.
A very convenient Blue-White Frox is located near the Apapes Lightroot, on the small island just east of the Hyrule Castle Depths. Since it’s so close to a Lightroot, it’s the perfect one to mark on your map for every Blood Moon cycle.
Another "favorite" for farmers is west of the Ancient Observation Deck (near the Tuft Canyon Mine). You can get there by traveling to the Mimufis Lightroot under Lurelin Village and trekking west.
The northwest corner of the map—under Hebra—is also crawling with them. Check the area between the Koro-nui and Kataki Lightroots, south of the Abandoned Hebra Mine. There’s another one west of the Sturnida Lavafalls, which is northeast of that same mine.
How to Actually Win (Without Wasting Arrows)
Look, we've all been there. You're trying to hit that giant glowing eye, and the Frox starts doing its little "wiggle" before leaping 50 feet into the air.
The absolute best way to handle any Frox—especially the Blue-White ones—is to wait for the vacuum. When it starts sucking air to pull you in, don't run. Instead, throw a Bomb Flower into its mouth. Or better yet, attach a bomb to an arrow and fire it in there.

It’ll swallow the bomb, it’ll explode in its stomach (kinda gross, but effective), and the Frox will be stunned on the ground for a good 10 seconds. This is your window. Climb up its tail or side, get on the back, and use a heavy blunt weapon—like a Boulder Breaker or any claymore fused with a Lynel Mace Horn—to smash the Zonaite deposits.
Pro Tip: When it bucks you off, it launches you high into the air. Don't just fall! Use your paraglider, pull out your bow to trigger slow-motion (bullet time), and shoot it in the eye again before you even hit the ground. You can often chain stuns this way and finish the fight without ever taking a hit.
Why Bother Farming Frox?
Aside from the monster medal, Frox parts are surprisingly useful.
- Zonaite: Every deposit on their back drops Zonaite or Large Zonaite. It’s one of the fastest ways to farm charges for your battery.
- Armor Upgrades: The Depths Set (the one that looks like Link is wearing a dark hood) requires a bunch of Frox parts.
- Fusing: Frox Fangs have decent attack power for early-to-mid game, and they look pretty cool on the end of a spear.
Essential Gear for the Hunt
Before you go hunting all 40, make sure you're prepared. You’re going to be in the Depths, so Gloom-resistant food (anything cooked with Sundelions) is a must. Also, wearing at least two pieces of the Depths Armor will give you a "buffer" against the gloom damage the Frox deals when it slams the ground.
If you’re going for the Blue-White variants, bring your highest-damage hammers. Using a sword on those back deposits is a waste of durability; you want something that breaks rocks.

Final Checklist for the Completionist
If you’re tracking these down for the medal, keep a mental (or actual) map of the mines. Most Frox are positioned near major landmarks like the Canyon Mines or Abandoned Mines. If you find a mine, there is almost certainly a Frox nearby guarding a Zonaite deposit or a chest.
Remember that they respawn every Blood Moon. If you find a spot that’s easy to reach, mark it with a stamp. The ones near Lightroots are your bread and butter for farming.
