All Barn Finds Forza Horizon 5: What Most People Get Wrong

All Barn Finds Forza Horizon 5: What Most People Get Wrong

You've been tearing across the Mexican desert, dust kicking up behind your Bronco, and then it happens. A purple circle pops up on your map. It’s a Barn Find rumor. If you’re like me, your first instinct is to drop everything and hunt it down. But honestly, all barn finds Forza Horizon 5 offers aren't just about driving to a point on a map. Some are locked behind specific missions, others require you to literally buy a house, and one isn't even technically a "rumor" at all.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours in FH5, and I still see people driving in circles around the volcano wondering why their barn won't open. It's frustrating. Let's fix that.

The 14 (or is it 15?) Legendaries

Most guides say there are 14 barn finds. They’re mostly right. If you’re looking at your accolades, 14 is the magic number for the "Better Than New" achievement. But there is a 15th car—the 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, better known as the "Vocho." You don’t find this via a random radio rumor. You get it by playing the Vocho Horizon Story.

If you're looking for the rest, you have to wait for the game to trigger a rumor. You can’t just drive to the barn location and expect the doors to swing open if the purple circle isn't there. It just doesn't work that way.

The Cars You’re Actually Hunting

Here’s the reality of what’s sitting in those dusty sheds. Some are absolute gems, others are... well, they're projects.

  • 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO: This is the big one. The holy grail. It’s located near Los Jardines on the eastern side of the map. Be warned: the restoration time on this is brutal. We're talking real-life days unless you want to cough up millions of credits to speed it up.
  • 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione: Found in the swampy Pantano de la Selva area. It’s a beast for S1 class once you tune it.
  • 1991 Jaguar Sport XJR-15: This one is actually tied to the Jungle Expedition. You have to find the "lost notes" during the mission to unlock the rumor. It’s tucked away in the Aeródromo en la Selva.
  • 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS: Tucked in the hills east of the volcano (La Gran Caldera).
  • 1993 Toyota T100 Baja Truck: Perfect for the cross-country races. You’ll find this near the crop circles in De Otro Mundo.
  • 1999 Dodge Viper GTS ACR: This one usually pops up late. It’s south of the Gran Pantano.
  • 1970 GMC Jimmy: Another mission-locked one. You need to reach the top of the central ruin during the Apex Expedition.
  • 1968 Ford Mustang GT 2+2 Fastback: Near Guanajuato. Iconic.
  • 1967 Ford Racing Escort MK1: This is on the slopes of the volcano. You unlock it by collecting a hot spring sample during the Baja Expedition.
  • 1953 Chevrolet Corvette: Found in the farm country south of Tierra Próspera.
  • 1956 Ford F-100: Also in the Tierra Próspera region, hidden behind some trees near a blue shed.
  • 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo: North of Guanajuato, just off the main highway.
  • 1968 Dodge Dart Hemi Super Stock: Near Teotihuacán. It’s a drag strip monster.
  • 1968 Renault 4L Export: This is the "hidden" one. You must buy the La Cabaña player house (it costs 150,000 credits) to trigger the rumor. No house, no Renault.

Why Your Barn Won’t Open

I see this constantly on Reddit and Discord. Someone has the map, they know where the barn is, but the cinematic won't trigger.

Basically, the game tracks your progression. If you haven't done the specific Expeditions (Baja, Jungle, Apex), some of these barns will stay locked forever. If you’re missing the Renault, check your player houses. If you're missing the Jaguar or the GMC Jimmy, go back and finish those optional objectives in the Expeditions.

And for the love of everything, use Drone Mode. Trying to find a tiny brown shack in a dense jungle with a supercar is a nightmare. Pop into the drone, fly low, and look for the white corrugated metal. When the drone finds it, the purple circle disappears and a permanent icon stays on your map. It saves so much time.

The Restoration Waiting Game

Once you find the car, it goes to Alejandra’s shop. This isn't Instant. The more "expensive" the car is in terms of in-game value, the longer it takes to fix.

The Ferrari 250 GTO takes the longest. Sorta makes sense, right? It's a multi-million dollar car. You’ll get a notification when it’s ready. If you're impatient, you can pay credits to "skip" the wait, but honestly, just keep racing. It’ll be ready before you know it.

Making the Most of Your Finds

Don’t just let these cars sit in your garage. Some of them are meta-relevant. The Jaguar XJR-15 is a top-tier S1 road racer with the right tune. The Ford Escort MK1 is a rally legend for a reason—it’s incredibly nimble on the dirt.

Even the "slow" ones like the Renault 4L are fun for meme builds or specific A-class dirt trials. Most people get the car, look at it once, and never touch it again. That’s a mistake. These cars often have unique engine swaps or body kits that you can't find on the standard Autoshow versions.

Actionable Steps for Completionists

If you're still staring at empty slots in your Barn Find menu, do this:

  1. Unlock all Horizon Festival Outposts: This is the primary trigger for most rumors.
  2. Complete the optional objectives in Expeditions: Specifically the Baja and Jungle ones.
  3. Buy La Cabaña: It’s a cheap house on the northwest coast. It’s the only way to get that 14th barn.
  4. Check your Gifts: Sometimes players send Barn Find cars as gifts to others. You’ll find these at the barns you’ve already discovered. It’s a cool way to get a duplicate or help someone out.

Go finish those Expeditions and buy that house. The 250 GTO is worth the wait, I promise. Once you’ve collected all 14, you can finally claim that "Better Than New" accolade and focus on the seasonal stunts. Just remember to use that drone—it's your best friend in the jungle.
