It's this season of the year again and this time I will do it, because Panda is busy.
Better be nice, you don't want to draw my wrath 

The Secret Santa, for those who are not familiar with it, is an anonymous gift exchanging activity.
Basically, you will be making a present for someone and receiving another one.l
The catch is that you know who you are giving it to, but not who is giving it to you, which makes it a very enjoyable and thrilling activity.
In our case, since we are Pixelation and all, we will be dealing with "pixel gifts".

Only those who sign up in this thread will be able to take part in it.
If you intend to do so, read carefully this thread.

First of all, here are some things you should be aware of:

• For signing up, you must reply to this thread with a post along the lines of "I sign up" or "Count me in".
  Any message without a clear response will be ignored.
• Also, when signing up, please put a couple of facts about you. What you like or dislike, hobbies, or whatever you think that would help the gift making.
• Please only sign up if you are 100% sure you will be able to make something for your partner.
  If you sign up and do not deliver anything by the due date, you will get a strike and won't be able to participate in the Secret Santa next year.
  Be considerate and think about your partner. How would you feel if you didn't get a gift yourself?
• Rawsushi, Zolthorg, Ro83rt and PASSOUT can not sign up since they did not deliver presents last year. Tough cookie.

The sign up starts today (November 15th, 2009), and will be open until November 23rd.
You can sign up until I temporarily close the thread, so don't miss your chance.
Once closed, no more participants will be accepted.

Shortly after the sign up is over, you will receive a PM (Personal Message) with the name of the person you have to pixel for.
Then you will have until December 23rd to finish your gift.

Once you are done with yours, please PM me the gift and your partner's name, so I can organize the whole thing before Christmas.

Q&A

What is a "Pixel Gift"?
A pixel gift is basically a pixel art piece you will be giving your partner. It can be anything, from an animation, to an avatar or a full fledged picture.
Whatever you want, as long as it is pixelled.

I will be away on December 23rd, Can I still participate?
Sure. You do not have to deliver the gift exactly ON December 23rd. You can send it in as soon as you are done (actually I would recommend everyone to do this).
So as long as you can deliver it on time, you are good to go.

How are you going to pick the partners?
First I will be assigning everyone a number according to the order you sign up.
Then I will be running this random sequence generator and everyone will get a new number.
After that I will re-run the generator once again to pick the order.

I couldn't finish my gift... Can I send in a WIP?
Yes, but you will still get a strike, and you must finish it as soon as you can. Or else! 

Can I pixel a gift for someone that is not my partner?
Sure, feel free to make extra gifts, but before that focus on your partner's.

Things I like? Well, I utmost adore Miyazaki Hayao (as a human being, artist and director). I really enjoy good made animation but I mostly dislike popular anime series (mostly technical-wise. The story is based on a manga, so that's a different story). I think I have a soft spot for atmospheric skies and landscapes (because of Shinkai Makoto, google him!!!) and lately I enjoy observing little details in every day life. I really like digging into something, reading the same thing or looking the same movies over and over again and I dislike stuff which I can't enjoy multiple times - I think I'm really impressed by hardworkers and often grumble over lazy people (and myself).

At time of posting the tally reads as 31 submitted, 44 nothing yet. Thats only just over 40%  

For the last few weeks I have been on a very busy work schedule awkwardly spanning 3 timezones each separated by about 8 hours. Thus I needed to make extra time somehow... easiest way was to just forgo personal hygiene, cooking and sex for a week. Well.. no sex was really because of my girlfriends unwillingness due to my lack of cleanliness... but hey ho.. I got it done - and now I'm starved!! I could have gained a little extra time I suppose by putting a bucket next to my chair to avoid most of the toilet trips, but I guess that's just where you have to balance 'slightly rushed' and '100% polished'.

From the outset, I was skeptical about whether my assigned recipient would contribute, and pretty doubtful if even his intended recipient would produce anything on time... still hopefully the gifts will get rearranged somewhat amongst those that rose to the challenge and made their own sacrifices to bring some happiness to others and hopefully some tighter restrictions next time round on who is allowed to sign up.

Anyhow.. gotta go for a shower and then find an all-you-can-eat style restaurant. Oh.. and then pick up some wrapping paper for it on the way home.

You have trouble getting motivated to pixel on your free time? The day before it sounded like a spectacular idea to make something tomorrow, but when the time comes there is no will to continue? Your brain does everything in it's power to prevent you from drawing?

Maybe you should make a thread about it or talk with some of your artist friends for some workarounds?
From my lurking place it seems you have some issues working outside your dayjob. Maybe there are some patterns that lead you to a negative feedback loop and misery? Outside it might seem like lazyness, but sometimes people are physically handicapped by their brain not cooperating.

I might be completely off with my assumptions, but this kind of things are common.

Actually, giving people a big list is something that I did to make sure people had a good idea of WHO I AM. Not just of WHAT I WANT. The WHO I AM part of a person is more important then WHAT THEY GET. Because, if you don't know anything about said person, and give them something. And then they're like: "Jeeze, this sucks, what the heck where you thinking?" Because, the more you know about a person, the less you'll be worried about WHAT THEY WANT, and the more you'll be able to concentrate on THE BEST YOU CAN DO. That is the important thing. Not per say, to be worried about offending them by what you did/didn't give, but being worried that you did/didn't GIVE YOUR BEST. That's all I got.

Oh man, I was looking forwards to the great unveil so bad! I doubt anyone's gonna be seriously pixelling on christmas day, to be honest, but here's hoping the extra few hours will be what the last few need!

I am also thinking about keeping tabs and if someone does not submit something in 2 secret santas consecutively (well with one year pause) they will be banned from the event for LIFE!

It's really disappointing the sheer number of no-shows Especially some of the really talented guys not submitting anything.

TBH, I don't think the rest of us should be punished because they didn't submit stuff though. The rest of us have been hanging out to see the gifts. I think you could display the gifts that were handed in on time and then add the extra gifts later (if they ever finish them, that is).

I've been trying to complete something for the last 3 days, but I'm having major computer problems. My computer literally crashes every 5-30 mins, and it's very frustrating to lose your work multiple times.

I'll be trying, but I really can't guarantee finishing on time. To my partner, I'm sorry, but I'll finish as soon as possible.

Try unplugging the internet. Chances are it's a virus/spam thing which uses your computer as a mailserver. I had something like that at work once and it spammed out mails and then crashed. But if it is not plugged to the internet it can't spam around and also did not crash. Worth a try at least.
