'57 Chevy

on: November 28, 2008, 06:36:37 pm
Hey, people, I've been lurking around for a long time... I kinda pixeled  but never really got into it much.
Anyways, I'm working on a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. So here it is

The messiness and wheels are pissing me off. Any help or critique would be appreciated :).

Ovals in perspective  :'( are hard
i tried, but i'm not 100% if this is the right way. I know this technique is usually slightly off, but it's often been close enough.

??? Hmmm... I'll try that, thanks.

Here's it so far, I corrected the bumper (because it was squished) and the back of the roof and shaded the lights.

Edit:
The wheels don't look like crap anymore  ;D

Here's an update

I changed the length to make it more accurate and I changed some other stuff too.
I might add some sort of background.

Gotta say I liked the previous palette better. It added more depth to the picture. Right now you're over stylizing it, but this should either be taken much further (4 colours or something), or be brought back to two colour ramps instead of one longer one.

If you truly want to go for a monochromatic feel I say go for it.

Nah, TrevoriuS was right, the original is better. So I've kinda started on a background, I'm trying not to add any more colors...

This is turning out great! You could sacrifice a thought or two on how to crop this image. Currently the car is a bit on the left side of the image looking away from the viewer. Is there some kind of message you want this picture to have? There's a few things you can put there without changing the perspective and one is to make the car more personal by placing it in a specific way in the picture. You probably want the car's face to be the focal point, so try and enforce that. Expand the picture a bit on the left side to move the car to the right. Some of the cracks on the road point towards the front, that's good, but i suggest you make the texture of the road less harsh since it's stealing attention.

I think this has some nice retro road tripping vibes to it already and could use a bit more, just can't think of how to add it atm...

You could also do the opposite... sometimes having something way off centre draws more attention than having it dead centre. Either is better than having it just a bit off, though. If you expand the picture to the right, you can actually have the road go all the way to the vanishing point, or almost... then you'd really get a sense of speed and distance, with this car rocketing along an endless road. Right now, it kind of looks like it's parked.

I wanna say I'm done with this, the clouds are kinda bothering me though, but I guess thats the best I can do with 7 colors. So I guess I'll upload it on Pixel Joint.

Mucho gusto. i love the style, and the new palette is rather nice. But the clouds look like... not clouds. If you're happy with it, then that's all that matters. You're the artist. It will probably never be perfect in your eyes, but if you want it better, i would make it a much clearer sky with a few whispy clouds. I'd make an edit, but atm I'm procrastinating on something else. Good luck!
