The CC suggestion thread.

on: June 07, 2007, 05:04:20 pm
Since we finally got our latest commercial critique up and running, that time has come again!
Your task will be simply to suggest games you would like to see featured on the next CCs.
The games can range from your favourite ones to those you had mixed feelings with, or simply the funkiest ones you have seen. Anything goes!
But before you reply, here are some guidelines:

- Please only suggest games where clean pixel perfect screenshots can be provided. (Otherwise it defeats the point of the CCs)
- If the game you are suggesting has different versions, please add any extral info needed for better recognition of the game you want (mention platform, year of publication etc)
- Do not repeat, second nor vote for an already suggested game on this thread for avoiding any confusion and mess. Once the time comes, we will set a poll for you to choose from.
- Do not chitchat here commenting about the games that have been suggested (unless if you are pointing out the lack of pixel art in a game, adding something constructive to them or similar cases), this thread should be solely for suggesting games.
- And of course, only suggest games with pixel art.

So, start posting!

I propose Commander Keen 6

This game has a lot of "bad" pixel art we can improve upon. It also uses a 16 colour palette which is nice to play around with. On top of that there's some really good stuff too (player animations for example)

I'd say we go for an adventure game this time (or maybe some other game that isn't tile/sprite based).
My suggestion would (once again) be Cruise for a Corpse http://hol.abime.net/3134/screenshot
I think it has a really nice atmosphere and style that would be both fun to analyze and try to imitate.

Mental note: I should post here more often...

Did you have metal slug yet?
If not, it's about time.
Does scaling an image blur it?

Metal slug has some stuff to analyse, pretty much nothing to critique tho. It's one of the games (up to number 3, everything after 3 imo is not Metal Slug but cack, not the same team and it shows) where everything is awesome and all the art is done with an immense amount of attention to detail and love.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Nosferatu for the Snes/SFC
I think it has a great sense of style, its somewhat unknown, and it has some funky use of pixels that confuses me.

Cosmo:

One of the first games I ever played.
I think it will be fun to mess around with a pallette like this one.

Prince of Persia, this was perhaps the first computer game i ever played and i think its quite legendary as it is still being made (for nex gen consoles though,  :-\).  It was released on many platforms and i can't decide which one looks best:

Atari St

Macintosh - the first one i think i played.
Big image:  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/55/PrinceofPersia-Mac.png

ZX Spectrum - People who like tough restrictions would have fun remaking this one,

NES i know lots of you like good ol' NES restrictions.

There were others, but they were either similar to these, or just not very good.
The background graphics were good, but i think they could have been a lot better.  The character animation is pretty damn good, aswell as various wall animations.

It was a good game, but there is a lot of stuff that could be remade/critiqued.

Secret of Evermore on the SNES.
The game has often been considered as a poor Secret of Mana clone...but it's not. The graphics have a really different (and more intersting IMO) style.
There are both intersting things to look at and to correct.
