(C+C) (NEWBIE) Humanoid Robot

on: March 20, 2017, 11:52:47 pm

So, hopefully this image shows up properly. It's my first work on this site, and I would appreciate it if I could get some pointers on aspects I overlooked and what I need to work on in the future.

This is just something I made without reference, inspired by an old beat-em-up enemy.

You gotta add .png or .gif after imgur links when using the link images thing here.

Criticism-ways though, big thing you need to do is study up on your anatomy and proportions. There's a few good guides on google, but one I tend to use more than others is the "heads" method, which is detailed here:

Thanks. This should actually be visible normally now.

Changes:
-Properly shaded head and darkened lines on it to make this more apparent
-Head and hair shrunken to better match rest of proportions
-Neck adjusted to viewer's left
-Shoulder-pads slightly moved and given small tweaks
-Arms are thicker around shoulder. Its left arm was also shortened to better match the other.
-Legs shortened to match body and have adjusted shading
-Better matched the Knee-pads to each other
-Its left foot was tweaked to be more clearly on its tip. Foot shading was also tweaked

Getting closer, but you may have to redraw it entirely. The arm proportions are way off (elbows too low, etc)

I'd advise reading up on some anatomy guides and come back to the design, Prokos does some good ones on youtube

Redrew this figure just to get a better feel on the proportions, without a massive amount of details (Other than redoing the visor shine). Something still feels off about the arms, but I just can't determine exactly what it is.

Hands, I'd say. Adjust the angle on the camera-right one, remember to think about how it connects at the wrist!

Ok. Took a while to get back to, but I redrew it to be better. Definitely looks better proportioned, but I may have missed something.

Again, I do insist you start looking up some basic anatomy lessons on youtube! There's a lot of things wrong here and just watching through one or two of them will start making things click.

This one here is a bit on the longer end, but has a ton of good tips and really goes into detail on why this stuff's important. Give it a watch!

Watched the videos. I still can't see too much of what is wrong, but I touched up the shading and limb sizes and completely redid the uncovered hand. Am I just looking right around the issues?

Pretty much, yes. Your legs are janky and positioned weird, the feet are just kind of dangling, the limbs are all in weird positions and angles that would be uncomfortable to hold...

I dont mean to tear into you here at all, I genuinely mean that, but you'd be better served practicing some of the concepts linked in those videos in other art pieces and practice excercises than you will poking at this right now I think.
