Background

on: March 17, 2017, 12:41:51 am
Hi. This is my first post on this forum so hello everyone : ).

For a couple of months I try to make pixel art so I'm still a beginner obviously.
Today for the first time I tried to do background.
Below you can see what came out(if it is not uploaded properly, sorry for that, but like I said, I'm new here). I think it is not so horrible, but I want to ask you, what do you think about it.
If you think something is wrong with it please tell me.

Alright, now that it's fixed:
First thing i'm noticing is it feels unfinished. Nothing has any texture of note, the colors are somewhat flat, and in general it needs a lot of touching up.

Second is there's no sense of scale and the composition is a bit off for what I'm assuming you're going for, IE, tree-and-bridge-on-a-cliff. The background trees (?) crowd around that cliff edge too much, try lowering them so that cliff is more out in the open and has a clearer silhouette.
Also, what's the big thing on the left? A rock? A sand dune? Another tree? it needs some work to be clear.
Finally, try and fade out the clouds some so they fit into the background more. They're too saturated as they are now, meaning they compete for attention with more important objects like that cliff edge.
It's a good rule of thumb, the more far back in the image something is supposed to be the less saturated you want it!

Ah... I see I have much ahead of me. Internet told me, things in the back should be more saturated so it lied to me >_<, or I just misread(it was quite  late). Anyway, thank you for pointing out errors :). I will work on it straight away.

Looking better, but now it's too dull! Add something to the bottom left to better imply depth, like the tops of some trees or a hilly field leading out towards the mountains!

I can't tell what's in the foreground and what's in the background, because the mountains align with the cliff-edge. Make the overlap clear.

For faraway objects, mix some of the sky colour into their colours, for atmospheric perspective. The further away, the closer to sky-colour. Here's a somewhat extreme example.

Ok, I worked on it a little more.

Ps. Is this bird looking ok? It is kinda hard to fit it in such small space.
