After All Angel

on: January 10, 2017, 03:50:46 pm
After All Angel

I thought I would post here to help spread awareness to something..
I just recently put up my new game on steam greenlight. It needs your vote.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=839109247

The game uses symbolism to express certain principles and ideas related to life and death. It is meant to provoke some thought about black and white, light and dark, and what may be found in between. It is based on some revelations I have had through my life, and represents a deep meaning for me.

I also realize that in these cases where votes are cast, usually the creator behind the creation isn't considered- that people tend to look just at the surface and what is being presented. I know it may look confusing, but there is a deeper message to it all. I hope that I can gain your support. This game will be small, but its success will bring bigger things.

Thanks

Looks rad Alex. Major kudos for making something which has meaning to you and not just pumping out anything that aims to please any imagined crowd.

At the moment I can't vote "yes, I'd buy it if it were available" because I'd have to know what it would cost first and I'd like more info about game mechanics and goals.

Good luck. From what I've seen, pushing something that initially appears to be more abstract like this through a community vote like greenlight doesn't end too well, but you have my vote.  :y:

Thanks guys-
I actually thought it would be better received than it currently is.
0xDB, I plan to sell it for $0.99 because it will be very simple.

Ok, that even I can afford. Got my vote now even without knowing more about the gameplay.

The format of greenlight facilitates games that are easy to consume and understand in a short time so you would want to market in a way that panders to a demographic that has a short attention span.

Yaomon, I hope you don't mind me speculating a bit, since I find it interesting to think about.. I think it's more a matter of expectation/adaptation- where you have variety of content(games), some will provide more to digest than others. If you're consuming a lot, then when a lesser game is crossed it doesn't fill you as much, so there is less satisfying feeling regardless of what it is.
I think this also leads to the suggested issue of short attention span- if you've adapted to consume more, you'll seek out more, so whatever is less appears unappealing. It also sounds like it might also relate to an addiction, or an acquired behavioral pattern.

I think that is a fair observation. I think if you front load the digestible content of a game, it would probably see better reception on a platform like greenlight. I'm not super about the general consumer on greenlight, but I feel like polished games with simple, familiar, and easy to understand concepts shown like guns and explosions and puzzle gems lining up and disappearing, or even some half intuitive concepts surrounded by buzzwords would have great success (stuff like Kerbal Space Program hopping on the creative game train started by Minecraft). So I guess my point is that the best way to get through greenlight is stuff a bunched of relatable, polished looking gameplay in the voter's face as fast as possible so they don't have to think too much before their attention runs out. It is an unfortunate and addictive behavior that is cultivated by mainstream culture. You could have the best game ever here, but greenlight probably won't be too receptive regardless :\. The best drive to vote is probably drawing interest with the abstractness and philosophy.

That sounds like a good way to do it.
If my game doesn't get greenlit in two months, I'll think about redoing it. While I wait, I can finish the game. :)
