[C&C]Janitor again? New Palette

on: November 15, 2016, 02:14:14 am
"This janitor again?"  I know, you are probably sick of him.

After having troubles making a unified color palette a while back I took a break from this and worked on other things.  Now after re-reading (and re-reading again) color and palette tutorials I gave it another try:

Does it blend together better?  (I think so/hope so—previous image at bottom)

Main Question: Does my palette have any issues this far?  Thought I would ask before continuing in the same method.

I may try other hue's for the tiles once I add more colors—maybe try unsaturated yellows and greens—but not sure if I did well in branching out to the tile colors.  I feel like I only know how to make 2 directional ramps and not sure how to branch out into the browns/greys/beige/etc types of colors needed.  (note: tiles got a bit messed up with all the recoloring and may remove details from them later—focusing on color choice atm)

Here's the last time I posted on these forums and the last image, if curious on where it has come from:

Sorry to post again so soon but just found new floor tile colors I like a lot (at the moment) and thought it may allow for judging the image differently:

The brown one looks better. The latest has too much contrast for a background imo.

Recolored the whole image tonight with current palette (with some exceptions):

Didn't touch blonde guy's hair, pink in donut and donut box, the medium skin tone (guy drinking water) and his blueish shirt, and couple of other spots—may need to adjust add to palette.

Planning on adjusting the greens and maybe the greys.  May make blue grey and grey grey (if that makes sense) for the subtle differences.

Any issues with color palette so far and/or color cohesion?

Good point on too much contrast. Darkened the lighter tile. May play around with other options as I work on the palette.

Have everything recolored with the new palette but still looking where I can improve:

Anything standing out?  Any colors not look right?

(the hollow colors on the palette are ones not currently used so may remove if not needed later)

Best way to update many sprites in separate png files to current color palette?
in graphicsgale:
1)put old palette at top right of image
2)index them to 8bit color mode (all frames -> color depth)
3)get new palette
4)do step 2 in the new palette
5) order the colors from new palette appropiately (by shift+dragging the colors)
5)save palette (from the menu in it)
6)replace the palettes in each sprite by doing "load palette" (also in the palette menu)

Thanks. I figured out something similar in Aseprite. But a lot of sprites I was reducing number of colors and such so no big shortcut possible.
