[WIP] Looking for Feedback for my game prototype!

on: November 02, 2016, 09:46:43 pm
Hey everyone!
This is just a mock up for a game I want to make. Hopefully you like it!

Is the shading alright?
and any opinions on the HUD?

Any other feedback is greatly appreciated !

The path looks a bit ugly as it currently stands, honestly. Might help to fix up that brown patch under it so it's not just a scribbly looking patch, I can't tell if it's supposed to be grass or a layer of dirt. The sandy beige bit I'm assuming is a footpath also needs some straightening out, not by much but it's just a bit too all-over now.
Otherwise, it feels like an old commodore game. Good stuff.

I have never looked at it like that before thank you! The lighter green is actually where the player will be walking and the sandy beige would just be the ground under the grass. But I agree with you, I never really liked it either.

Maybe the grass hangs over too much? The darker brown is supposed to be a shadow. Instead of the sandy beige maybe just keep a dark brown with some grey spots for rocks ?

A couple of simple tweaks, to fix the problems I percieve.
For both I moved the lighter green down, to give it a sandy footpath look as you often see on nature trails, and removed the orange and red out in favor of one of the greens used on the trees, reducing the overall colorcount and clashing colors.
For the first one, I completely removed the bottom "grass/bushes" and for the second I did that then layered them back over, so you could potentially have characters layered behind that foreground grass.
I then merged both into a gif, because it was easy!

Wow that looks so much better! I will totally try both out. Thank you so much! It looks a lot better without the clashing beige.
