Help me with this running animation please

on: October 08, 2016, 10:42:25 pm
That is what I made so far

You may need to download picture to see animation.

What to do to make it better and smoother looking? Thank you.

Just follow this tutorial to start with: http://www.lessmilk.com/tutorial/pixel-art-run-cycle

When you're done with everything you can learn from there, one can look more closely at specific problems you might have. But when you're just starting out at the very beginning, simply following a tutorial is very efficient at teaching what you need.

p.s. to make the animation loop forever, make sure you switch the repeating option from Once to Forever (assuming Photoshop):

^ ^ ^ ^ you should post these so it's easier to see immediate problems with your animation.

I stabilized your guy a bit. The character shouldn't be jumping around during a run cycle. The forward movement is handled by your code.

^ ^ This is what your animation actually would look like with only up and down movement of the torso. Not half bad :)

Not sure if your trying to force the animation to 4 frames. If you are I would change up the last frame. The transition from the 3rd to 4th frame makes a rough 'jump'. The 'jump' makes it look more like a gallop than a run which you can totally go for if that's what you want. A lot of people go for the gallop

*note if your click/shift-click an image it will grow/shrink.

It was jumping around, because I'm terrible at animating. It does look alright. I guess I wont get better than that...

This is what I came up with. I quickly moved the legs around so the extreme frame is centered gravity-wise. I also cancelled out the arms flailing around. I kept the frame chart / sheet from the previous post however.

Also, you'll get better if you keep trying. Things like animation just take time. You'll slowly build skill as time goes along, and before you know it, you'll have muscle memories on where you think things should go.
