RPG eight directional Walk WIP

on: September 11, 2016, 01:33:22 am
I'm working on a rpg and I feel like I did pretty decently with progressing with 3 out of Eight directions.

my spacing on this gif was a bit funky

To be honestly I'm a bit stuck with north animation. Like from this perspective My mind goes blank. I've tried making Keys frames and going from there but still I draw up a blank.

I'm looking for some guidance in the right direction as to how to animate it from this perspective.

Here are my current attempts:

The frame order is from left to right. I'm pretty sure if i can get the legs right then arms will follow. The last from actually looks like more from a run so I will save that. But I wanted this animation to match her south walk in a sense.

Nice front walk! The side sprite looks like it's from a side scroller game instead of 3/4 perspective RPG imo.
The highlight in the skirt from the last sprite moves too much, and "glows" more than in the front walk. Maybe doing this one similar to the front walk could work.

I reduced the gap between the legs in a couple of frames so it looks more like the front walk.

EDIT: It's a gif now, I wrote .png in the link because I'm too used to it

Thanks for pointing that out! ;D

If you could upload that image as a Gif I could open it in Photoshop and re shade it a bit similar to the front walk.

I don't know why i didn't notice that  the gap was too big. I really needed that adjustment it looks much better.

As for the side walk Yeah I see what you mean.  :( :'(

If possible I would like to see if I can get away with it and if not I will redraw it lastly after i do the other directions.

Update:

tried to match the shading a bit more made two different versions

Which one works better? :-\

The second one looks better, but you nailed it in the front walk. I would try to make it look similar to it.
Does the step with the left leg last for the same amount of frames than the right one? It feels shorter to me ???

I"dont know what else to do with the walk right now. Maybe i can comeback to it in time. ???

it does have the same amount of frames it just one the blue leg she has 2 frames with the heel upwards one before contact and one at contact.

On the red leg she has two frames lifting the blue leg while contact is on the  red leg. I will make them match up so it doesn't feel like that. Thanks for the feedback.

Edit:
This has 9 frames I added on to the red side to make it a bit more smooth.

Adding arms and more later on tonight. ;)

I think you have some problems going on with your basesprite.
If you place it next to a correctly shaped 3/4 viewed box it appears flat.
Your character looks like it's viewed from "base height" like in a sidescroller, but those projections are seen from above

I quickly edited 2 frame sof your char, that it better fits in the chosen projection.
-be careful with the top of the head which should be visible more
-curves like the circlet or the bottom of the dress recede in space.

for the "iso" projection:
-make sure that arms and feet follow the 2:1 line.
-also the top of the head should be more visible.

basically the same problems are evident in all 8 directions.
Try to understand how basic forms in this projection look like.
Try to build up your character in a "virtual" space.
