Walking w/sword animation.

on: January 19, 2016, 05:52:23 am

Hi, I am creating a simple game and have always struggled with animation. What can I do to improve this animation? I would love to hear pointers to help me creating animations as well. Thanks  ;D.

I think the gif is a little glitchy...

There should be much more back and forth with the sword and hand. Walk around in front of a mirror and note that your hands actually move slightly behind you. But also you need to consider exaggerating this because of the small scale of your sprite so you the movement can be read.

Here is my second try at walking. I tried to make it more dramatic, the body moves. It is a bit tricky to keep the S while doing that. Also the feet are a bit more dramatic. The sword also moves. I changed the hand to be floating, partly because that is easier.

Now how does it look?

The head tilts way too much now, its awkward, your first walk was better honestly. Nothing too wrong with it either.

People don't move their head when they walk, even when you exaggerate it. So yeah, that looks more like a funny dance now. I also think the original is quite okay, though I've never been able to grasp this top-down style really.
