Why the slow move to the scabbard, but then the ultra quick draw? I'd imagine he would either do the whole thing fast or slow. In either case you need another frame in the scabbard movement, its really jerky.

In between which frames?

In the beginning, before he draws. He just sort of clicks over, pauses and then draws. I think that click over part could use another frame to imply movement. Right now it just looks like what it is, one image swapped with another, and lacks the animation effect. Its really hard to pull off a movement in two frames.

I took some of your advice

Tried to make the scabbard a bit smoother. Also added an extra frame on his squat, and made the whole thing equal speed.

Edit: Changed part of how his arm drops/ His hips before the drop.

I think the main problem here is that the scabbard is usually on the opposite side of the sword hand.

Afaik drawing it from the same side is very difficult without using both hands, and very awkward too.

Actually that is quite wrong in some cases.

Most English long swordsmen wore their swords on the right side of their hip.

Well, I tried to find a reference, couldn't find one. But I see you did, and it shows what exactly is wrong with your animation, when you have the sword sheathed below your sword-hand you need to draw it vertically, you can't rotate the sword until it fully escaped the scabbard and need to lift the hand quite high.

I suppose so, wouldn't that change the overall effect of the animation though?

Interesting link, I love learning about real history.
Well in this context I think the main problems are:
  • The sword leaves the scabbard too soon, you basically have it rotating out/teleporting which is possible in frames but not reality
  • Elbow/shoulder doesn't draw high enough to carry it out straight
  • The foot extension serves no purpose, he would be trying to stay as stable as possible

I get that you're trying to make it pop at the end, but it would make more sense to work to a combat-ready stance. Or is he just trying to intimidate?
